Overview

We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service. Join a Global Team Building the Future of Aerospace Manufacturing. We’re looking for a Python-leaning software engineer to help drive the next generation of systems that support our eVTOL production. You’ll be part of a vertically integrated, international team spread across four continents, working on complex, high-impact projects that span financial, engineering systems, and the tools that help our people build something that’s never been built before. Working with a level of ambiguity and cross-collaboration is core to everything we do. Whether you’re developing a backend service that streamlines financial transactions, or creating APIs that help engineers interact with advanced technical equipment, your work will improve efficiency and clarity across the business.

Responsibilities

Develop Python applications and backend services that support our enterprise infrastructure

Collaborate with cross-functional teams across time zones to support internal users and stakeholders

Build and maintain APIs that connect business logic with production data and hardware systems

Contribute to event-based services and integrations (e.g., Kafka) as we build reliable, asynchronous workflows

Explore API patterns where appropriate, including GraphQL in addition to REST

Help tackle diverse technical challenges - from improving engineering workflows to integrating with modern manufacturing equipment - under guidance from more experienced engineers

Contribute to a modern tech stack in a fast-moving environment, with increasing ownership over time

Required

A degree in computer science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

1–4 years of software engineering experience (or strong internship/co-op experience)

Hands-on experience with Python

Working knowledge of Docker and containerized development workflows

Familiarity with building maintainable web services and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL)

Interest in event-driven architecture and event-based services (Kafka experience is a plus)

Desired

Working proficiency with GitHub-based CI/CD workflows

Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB

Familiarity with file systems or cloud storage platforms

Ability to work effectively in a globally distributed team with clear communication and follow-through

Exposure to agile development and fast-paced project environments

Background in production or manufacturing settings is a plus

Interest in AI-assisted development workflows

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $101,900 - $149,100/yr

. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
