Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, the Safety Advisor is an integral member of the EPC team supporting the BHP project.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide expert guidance and support to the site team on all health, safety, environmental, and compliance obligations. The Safety Advisor is responsible for ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and company standards, fostering a strong safety culture, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Key responsibilities include maintaining site compliance (including amenities), conducting incident investigations and reporting, performing audits, and mentoring personnel to promote proactive safety behaviours.
This is a FIFO role operating on a 16 days on / 10 days off roster , structured as follows:
D ay 1: Travel to site
Day 2: handover with back-to-back
Days 3–14: Active duty as HSE Advisor on site
Day 15: Handover with back-to-back
Day 16: Travel home (no site attendance)
Days 17–26: 10 days off
A professional and accountable approach is always required.
Major Responsibilities / Duties
QUENSHT
Contribute to and promote the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture at Clarke Energy
Take responsibility for personal health and safety and ensure actions do not impact others
Actively stop unsafe work practices
Identify, report, and assist in rectifying health, safety, and environmental hazards
Technical
Manage site incidents, including reporting, investigation, and close-out
Deliver site-specific inductions and walkthroughs for all new personnel
Conduct regular compliance audits using Clarke Energy systems to ensure audit readiness
Plan and facilitate fire drills and debriefs in accordance with the Safety Management Plan (SMP)
Assist with general site inspections
Conduct Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments for incoming personnel
Deliver toolbox talks as required
Review and verify all SWMS using Clarke Energy checklists to ensure compliance
Conduct Safe Act Observations (SAOs)
Identify and recommend improvements to safety management systems and plans
Personal Management
Demonstrate accountability and ownership of assigned tasks
Maintain a results-driven focus
Treat all personnel fairly in accordance with HR and IR policies
Operate effectively with minimal supervision
Travel interstate when required
Communication
Communicate clearly and effectively in both individual and team settings
Deliver written and verbal communication that influences and engages stakeholders
Customer Service
Build and maintain a rapport and trust with the customer
Deliver services to customer which either meets and /or exceeds their expectations
Continuous Improvement
Actively contribute to improving internal systems and processes
Identify efficiencies to enhance productivity and reduce cycle times
Support ongoing improvement of service delivery and business outcomes

Timely and accurate completion of toolbox talks in line with SMP requirements

Required Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Proven experience in a safety role working in high-risk environments, for example construction, oil and gas, power generation or renewables
Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and safety audits
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is required
Diploma or Advanced Diploma in WHS is highly regarded
Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline is highly regarded
ICAM or similar incident investigation training is desirable
Lead auditor qualification (for ISO 45001 or similar) is desirable
Trade or technical background can be beneficial, particularly in mechanical, electrical or construction
White Card, mandatory for construction related energy projects
First Aid certification
Working at Heights, Confined Space and Gas Testing tickets
Strong communication skills, ability to engage with frontline workers and influence safe behaviours
Confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours and escalate where required
Ability to deliver safety training, toolbox talks and workshops
Strong observational and reporting skills
High level of integrity and consistency in enforcing standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications:

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Strong organisational skills with the ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure environments.
