Research Project Scientist

We are seeking to appoint a Research Project Scientist to support two complementary initiatives and contribute to their project management and research activities. The first project, the VIE (Vaccine Identity Evaluation), aims to assess the performance of the devices designed, or repurposed to detect falsified and degraded vaccines in both laboratory conditions and a near-to-real-life pharmacy setting in Nigeria. The second, DAFODIL (DAshboard for Field-pOrtable screening Devices using scientific Literature evidence), is an online platform to guide policy makers deciding on screening technologies for post-market surveillance activities.

The Medicine Quality Research Group is at the forefront of global efforts to improve our understanding of the epidemiology of substandard and falsified antimicrobials and how we can prevent, detect and respond to them, to improve the quality of the medical products supply. Our work informs national and international regulatory bodies, researchers, and policymakers through innovative systems for data collection, analysis, and dissemination.

You will be responsible for providing expert scientific and project management input and ensure that projects deliverables are executed to time and budget. Your task is to agree clear task objectives, organise, and delegate work to other members of the team and coach other members of the group on specialist methodologies or procedures. You will share responsibility for shaping the research group’s plans and the writing of group funding applications for new research projects. You will also raise research funds through grant applications and manage own area of a larger research budget.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil in Global Health or a related discipline. You must have post-qualification experience in health policy, supply chains, regulatory affairs, or related areas. It is essential you have experience in project management and the ability to motivate others.

This role will be full-time from September 2026 until June 2027 from where it will be 0.8FTE (30 hours). There may be an opportunity for the role to continue as full time if further funding is secured.
