Vertical Institute is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale the systems powering our learning platform and internal business operations.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams across admissions, sales, operations, finance, and learning delivery to develop scalable tools, integrations, and AI-driven workflows. Your work will directly impact operational efficiency and learner experience across the organisation.

This role is suited for an engineer who enjoys ownership, thrives in fast-moving environments, and is motivated by solving real business problems through practical, high-impact systems.

What you will own

Core Systems Development

Design, build, and maintain systems supporting the learning platform and internal operations

Ensure systems are performant, scalable, secure, and reliable

Internal Tools & Automation

Develop internal tools to streamline workflows across sales, admissions, finance, and student operations

Identify manual processes and implement automation to improve efficiency and scalability

Integrations & System Design

Design and implement integrations across LMS, CRM, payment gateways, and third-party SaaS tools

Architect solutions that support business growth and evolving operational needs

AI & Workflow Innovation

Build AI-powered features, agents, and automation workflows to improve productivity and user experience

Identify practical applications of AI to reduce operational overhead and enhance decision-making

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions

Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Engineering Ownership & Standards

Own features and systems end-to-end, from design through deployment and iteration

Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and system reliability improvements

What we look for

Strong experience in web application development (full-stack or backend-focused)

Proven ability to independently design and operate production systems

Experience with APIs, databases, and modern web frameworks

Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and performance optimisation

Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, delivery-oriented mindset

Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or edtech platforms

Experience integrating SaaS tools (CRM, payments, analytics, etc.)

Familiarity with Ruby on Rails

Experience building AI workflows using modern AI APIs or automation frameworks
