Position Summary

VERSA Integrated Solutions is seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the design, implementation, governance, and optimization of enterprise data architectures supporting Federal Government customers. The Data Architect is responsible for defining enterprise data strategies, designing scalable data ecosystems, establishing governance frameworks, and ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing data environments.

The successful candidate will collaborate with executive leadership, enterprise architects, cloud engineers, AI/ML engineers, software developers, cybersecurity professionals, and business stakeholders to create modern data platforms that support analytics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and mission-critical operations.

Position Objectives

The Data Architect will:

Develop enterprise data architecture strategies aligned with agency missions. Design scalable and secure cloud-based and hybrid data architectures. Establish enterprise data governance and metadata management practices. Improve data quality, accessibility, interoperability, and lifecycle management. Enable advanced analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence capabilities. Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity, privacy, and records management requirements.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Architecture

Design enterprise-wide data architectures supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models. Establish enterprise data standards and architecture principles. Define reference architectures for cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to align data architecture with overall IT strategy.

Data Strategy & Governance

Develop enterprise data strategies and implementation roadmaps. Establish data governance policies and procedures. Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability. Develop metadata management and master data management (MDM) strategies. Support compliance with the Federal Data Strategy and agency governance initiatives.

Cloud Data Platforms

Design and support modern cloud data environments using:

Microsoft Azure Azure Synapse Analytics Azure Data Lake Azure SQL Azure Fabric (preferred) AWS Data Services Snowflake Databricks

Provide guidance on cloud migration strategies and modernization efforts.

Data Integration & Engineering

Define enterprise data integration standards. Design ETL/ELT architectures. Support API integration strategies. Architect data ingestion pipelines. Enable real-time and batch processing solutions. Optimize data movement and synchronization.

Data Quality & Master Data Management

Develop enterprise solutions supporting:

Data profiling Data cleansing Data lineage Data cataloging Reference data management Master data management Data quality monitoring Data validation

Security & Compliance

Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement:

Zero Trust principles Data encryption Role-based access control (RBAC) Data masking Data loss prevention (DLP) Audit logging Records retention Privacy controls

Support compliance with:

NIST 800-53 FISMA FedRAMP Privacy Act Section 508 (where applicable)

Analytics & Business Intelligence

Enable enterprise analytics platforms supporting:

Power BI Tableau Microsoft Fabric Business Intelligence dashboards Executive reporting Predictive analytics Artificial Intelligence initiatives

Collaboration

Partner with:

Enterprise Architects Cloud Architects AI/ML Engineers Data Engineers Database Administrators Software Developers Cybersecurity Engineers Business Analysts Program Managers

Provide architectural guidance throughout the system development lifecycle.

Education

Bachelor's degree in:

Computer Science Information Systems Data Science Information Technology Engineering Mathematics

Master's degree preferred.

Equivalent experience may substitute for education.

Experience Levels

Junior (0–4 Years)

Experience with SQL and relational databases. Knowledge of data modeling fundamentals. Exposure to cloud platforms and ETL concepts. Experience supporting enterprise data environments.

Intermediate (5–9 Years)

Design and implementation of enterprise data models. Experience with Azure or AWS cloud data platforms. Data governance and integration experience. Support for analytics and reporting initiatives.

Senior (10–14 Years)

Leadership in enterprise data architecture. Large-scale cloud data modernization. Data governance program leadership. AI and analytics platform architecture. Mentoring technical teams.

Subject Matter Expert (15+ Years)

Recognized expertise in:

U.S. Census Bureau Department of Commerce National Institutes of Health (NIH) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Department of Defense (DoD) Department of Labor (DOL) General Services Administration (GSA)

Experience supporting enterprise data modernization, cloud migration, analytics, or AI initiatives within federal environments is strongly preferred.

Security Clearance

Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher clearance, depending on customer requirements.

Work Environment
