We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Merchant Acquiring Fraud Risk.

The Fraud Risk Management sits within the First Line of Defence ad part of the Wholesale Banking (WSB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) structure and formally aligned to the Wholesale Business Risk model.

The role will lead the transaction fraud management and risk strategy for HSBC’s Digital Merchant Services (DMS) ecommerce card acquiring solution, working alongside the Product Team within Global Payment Solutions (GPS). As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) you’ll lead the fraud risk management capability that protects both the Acquirer and Merchants from fraud risk, ensuring compliance with relevant regulation, card scheme rules that delivers great customer outcomes. This is a relatively new proposition which will build and grow over time and you’ll the ability to shape the business as the product offering scales.

In this role you’ll:

Drive end to end management of fraud risk, including strategy, analytics and operations within the Card Acquiring product globally that are managed by GPS.

Be responsible for the delivery of controls and other mitigation activities including that encompass both Acquirer and Merchants ensuring balanced risk appetite, client experience and operational tolerance measures

Collaborate with the Digital Merchant Services (DMS) product team to ensure obligations and issues set out by Card Schemes / external regulators are resolved

Liaise with Financial Crime Investigations (FCI) and other stakeholders to deal with fraud incidents to minimise losses, client impact and take remedial actions where necessary

Enhanced and grow the capability and capacity of the team so that they are primed to deliver the fraud strategy and achieve buy-in for change where necessary

Develop and maintain a suite of risk and control management information to understand risks, trends and deliver governance and reporting requirements

Represent Fraud Risk Management in interactions with the DMS Product Team, Business Stakeholders, IT and Risk Stewards in the Second Line of Defence

To be successful in this role you’ll meet the following requirements:

Extensive experience of transactional fraud threats impacting Merchant Acquiring services including current, new and emerging threats

Be a Subject Matter Expert of the strategies used to minimise and mitigate fraud risk to the Acquirer from abuse by merchants

Have a strong qualitative and quantitative analysis capability and used to working with complex data to detect and prevent fraud including rule and machine learning based techniques

Knowledge of the relevant Card scheme rules that relate to fraud and chargebacks ensuring compliance with requirements and a thorough understanding of card fraud regulation and the 3D Secure protocol

Possess very good stakeholder management skills, coupled with a professional confidence that engender the view of a ‘Trusted Partner’ across a varied internal and external audience

Demonstrate really good time management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to managing multiple tasks often with conflicting priorities

Demonstrate a Collaborative and empathetic leadership style with a track record of developing people to create a high performing team
