Job Description
AbbVie are seeking a Senior Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team in Carraigtwohill, Cork. The Senior Maintenance Engineer reports to the Engineering Operations Manager. In this role, you will provide technical expertise for day-to-day production issues, with a focus on reliability engineering, asset management, continuous improvement, and energy/sustainability initiatives. You will also support manufacturing projects and help keep the site compliant, efficient, and audit-ready.
Key responsibilities
Act as technical expert / SME on reliability engineering
Support day-to-day production issues and manufacturing projects
Troubleshoot technical issues and identify effective solutions
Lead/support projects, training, and cross-training
Drive process improvements and Kaizen activities
Partner with EHS to ensure site safety
Manage Engineering Change Control
Set and maintain reliability standards across equipment, processes, systems, and utilities
Lead/participate in RCAs and ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence
Develop technical improvement business cases using DMAIC or similar methods
Improve maintenance systems and identify improvement opportunities
Support energy management, sustainability, and asset lifecycle programs
Ensure the MEP program is QA/EHSE compliant and audit ready
Qualifications
Degree (Level 8) in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering or related discipline
5+ years’ experience in a Maintenance Engineering role in an FDA or HPRA regulated environment
Experience in a sterile fill facility
Strong knowledge of cGMP and pharmaceutical regulatory requirements
Excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills
Fluent English
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
