About the role

Company

Jefferies, a global investment bank and securities firm, has served companies and their investors for over 60 years. Headquartered in New York City, with offices in more than 25 cities around the world, Jefferies provides clients with capital markets and financial advisory services, institutional brokerage, securities research and asset management. The firm is a leading provider of trade execution in equity, high yield, convertible and international securities for institutional investors and high net worth individuals.

Position overview

Jefferies is looking to hire an experienced employment lawyer, with a strong track record working in-house in a fast-paced financial services environment (preferably investment banking) and/or experience in private practice at a leading firm with a substantial focus on advising a financial institution client base. International experience is required as responsibilities will include managing (directly and with support of external counsel) legal and HR issues arising in EMEA and Asia jurisdictions in which the business operates. As well as being a subject matter expert, the candidate should have the confidence and initiative to support senior management, including Regional and Global Heads of corporate and business lines.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing business, and the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience advising on all aspects of the employment lifecycle in a regulated organisation in EMEA and Asia, in particular:

Advising on day-to-day employment issues such as remuneration and benefits structures and entitlements, business protection, dispute resolution, disciplinary processes, performance management, grievance processes and preventative management

Drafting, reviewing and negotiating employment documents, policies and procedures

Managing employment litigation claims and pre-action matters

Advising on hires and exits

Developing and sharing know-how

Providing training to control functions and managers on employment law and HR issues

In addition, the candidate should:

Be confident in providing immediate support and advice to the business

Be commercially savvy with the ability to distil and explain legal issues quickly and succinctly

Have a working knowledge of employment law, human resources and regulatory landscapes in EMEA and Asia

Be efficient at managing and prioritising a varied workload for a number of different stakeholders

Have a highly collaborative outlook, working in partnership with other control functions and business units

Have experience of dealing with senior business managers and presenting at board committees

This is a diverse role for a confident, self-motivated and outgoing candidate with excellent communication skills, the ability to hit the ground running and provide significant added value to the business.
