Experience

10-15 years of overall IT experience with strong focus on SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure / Cloud-based database environments, Azure Cloud, Database Reliability, Automation, and Operational Support

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Operations Engineer (Senior DB Ops)to lead database operations, automation, and reliability initiatives across cloud and hybrid environments. This role requires deep expertise in database platforms, DevOps practices, monitoring, and Azure ecosystem services.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) architecture, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with Infrastructure, Application, and Security teams.

This role demands strong troubleshooting skills, end-to-end operational ownership, and an automation-first mindset, with the ability to support mission-critical production systems in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Own database reliability, availability, performance, scalability, and resilience across Production, UAT, QA, and Development environments

Lead database operations across SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and other Azure/cloud database services

Manage and ensure robust database backup, restore, and recovery strategies aligned with RPO/RTO objectives

Perform database maintenance activities including index optimization, statistics management, and data integrity validation

Monitor and troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, replication latency, long-running queries, and performance bottlenecks

Design, configure, and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, and failover mechanisms

Implement proactive monitoring, ing, and observability using tools such as SentryOne and operational dashboards

Automate routine operational tasks using PowerShell, Python, Azure Automation Runbooks, Terraform, and Ansible

Support CI/CD pipelines, database deployments, and operational/release automation using Azure DevOps

Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning

Participate in production incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews

Collaborate with application teams for query tuning, schema design reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization

Continuously reduce operational toil through automation, standardization, and self-healing practices

Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with organizational policies

Optimize cost and resource utilization in cloud-based database environments

Participate in on-call rotation and major incident management support

Ability to work in EST time zone

Azure infrastructure services including Virtual Machines, Storage, Networking, firewall, IIS

Programming & Troubleshooting

Basic .NET stack awareness for application troubleshooting

Cross-technology troubleshooting capabilities

Operational scripting and automation development

Ability to handle production incidents calmly and effectively

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience supporting enterprise financial/payment applications

Knowledge of SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs , Error budgets, Toil reduction

Experience with: ServiceNow, PagerDuty, Operational workflows

Exposure to Kubernetes and containerized application environments

Experience with Power BI operational reporting and dashboards

Familiarity with feature flags, CI/CD governance, and change management processes

Understanding of cloud-native observability and AI-assisted operational tooling Top of FormBottom of Form

Certifications (Preferred)

Azure certifications: AZ-104, AZ-305, DP-300

Terraform Certification: HashiCorp Terraform Associate
