Core Requirements of the Post

Hamelin-Laie International School Barcelona is seeking an organised and proactive Maintenance Manager to support the effective operation, maintenance, and safety compliance of the school campus.

The successful candidate will coordinate daily maintenance and facilities activities, support operational readiness across the school, and assist in the implementation and monitoring of Health & Safety and Occupational Risk Prevention procedures in accordance with Spanish legislation and school policies.

The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple operational priorities while working collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors. The Health & Safety Coordinator will contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilities & Maintenance Coordination

Lead the day-to-day coordination of maintenance and facilities operations across the school campus.

Develop, implement, and monitor a preventive maintenance plan for school buildings, equipment, and installations.

Coordinate and supervise the daily tasks and priorities of the maintenance team, ensuring efficient organisation and appropriate follow-up.

Manage and monitor maintenance requests through the school ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution and communication with stakeholders.

Conduct regular inspections of the campus to proactively identify maintenance needs, operational issues, or areas for improvement.

Coordinate external contractors and service providers, ensuring works are completed according to school standards, timelines, and safety requirements.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance works, inspections, service reports, and supplier documentation.

Support operational improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous enhancement of school facilities.

Ensure facilities are operationally ready daily for students, staff, and visitors.

Support the setup and logistics of school events and operational activities when required.

Health & Safety and Occupational Risk Prevention Support

Support the Operations & Health and Safety Manager in the implementation of Health & Safety and Occupational Risk Prevention procedures.

Assist with routine safety inspections and the follow-up of corrective actions.

Use the school’s reporting systems, including Sphera, to report and monitor hazards, incidents, and near misses.

Support the management and maintenance of Health & Safety documentation, inspection logs, and compliance records.

Assist in monitoring fire safety equipment, emergency signage, and evacuation procedures.

Support the coordination of emergency drills, training sessions, and safety awareness initiatives.

Liaise with external prevention and compliance providers when required.

Escalate relevant safety concerns or operational risks to the Operations & Health and Safety Manager.

Promote a positive culture of safety awareness and compliance across the school community.

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

Vocational Training, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in Facilities Management, Engineering, Occupational Risk Prevention, Health & Safety, or a related field.

Certified training in Occupational Risk Prevention (Prevención de Riesgos Laborales) in accordance with Spanish legislation.

Minimum Intermediate Level (“Técnico Intermedio en PRL – 300h”) required; Higher Level qualification (“Técnico Superior en PRL”) desirable.

Proven experience in facilities coordination, maintenance operations, Health & Safety support, or a similar operational role.

Experience working within schools, educational environments, hospitality, or complex operational organisations desirable.

Good understanding of Spanish Health & Safety and Occupational Risk Prevention regulations.

Ability to coordinate contractors, maintenance activities, and operational priorities effectively.

Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.

Ability to maintain accurate records and manage documentation systematically.

Experience using reporting systems, ticketing platforms, or facilities management systems desirable.

Proactive and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Ability to respond calmly and effectively in operational or emergency situations.

Fluency in Spanish and English essential; Catalan desirable.

Pay: 30,000.00€ - 35,000.00€ per year
