About the role
We are seeking a passionate (Senior) Cloud Engineer to join our growing team.
About Eltemate
We are ELTEMATE – A Hogan Lovells Legal Tech Company. Our goal is to make clients’ lives easier by delivering practical solutions to everyday problems. We combine a deep understanding of our clients' legal needs with the speed and innovation of a technology start-up. Our portfolio covers a large spectrum of legal tech solutions including artificial intelligence, eDiscovery, information analysis, regulatory updates, databases, deal rooms, workflow management, case management, document automation, risk assessment, reporting, and apps.
2. Role Description
We are looking for a (Senior) Cloud Engineer to help design, build, and operate our Azure infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys actively designing, implementing, and shipping technical solutions - rather than focusing primarily on coordinating deployments or managing tickets. You should be comfortable reading and writing code, working with Infrastructure as Code, debugging production systems, and making pragmatic architecture decisions.
Our infrastructure is built primarily on Microsoft Azure, with Pulumi using Go for Infrastructure as Code. We run containerized applications, managed databases, private networking, observability tooling, and security controls required for a regulated environment.
You will work closely with our engineering teams to make our platform reliable, secure, observable, and maintainable.
3. Duties and Responsibilities
Build and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
Work with Pulumi, primarily in Go, to define and evolve cloud resources
Design secure and scalable infrastructure for containerized applications and platform services
Operate and improve Azure resources such as Container Apps, PostgreSQL, Key Vault, Application Gateway and monitoring components
Help enforce security and compliance requirements, including private networking, least privileged access, auditability, and production readiness
Debug infrastructure, networking, deployment, identity, and runtime issues across cloud and application boundaries
Improve observability, alerting, logging, tracing, and operational runbooks
Review architecture and infrastructure changes from other engineers
Identify potential recurring problems and improve systems, tooling, and processes
Collaborate with engineering teams so services are deployed, configured, and operated in a maintainable way
4. Required knowledge, skills and experience
Several years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
Strong practical understanding of cloud networking, including VNets, subnets, DNS, private endpoints, routing, firewalls, and ingress
Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Pulumi, Terraform, Bicep, ARM, or similar
Ability to read and write production-quality code in at least one general-purpose language
Experience operating production systems, including incident investigation and root-cause analysis
Strong understanding of identity, secrets management, permissions, and secure cloud design
Clear written and verbal communication skills in an international or remote-first environment
5+ years of experience as DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Platform Engineer, SRE, or similar role
5. Other preferred skills
Experience building infrastructure for regulated, security-conscious, or ISO-aligned environments
Familiarity with LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir) or Prometheus
Experience running microservices in production
Experience in a startup or scale-up environment
6. Expectations
You should be able to:
Understand existing Infrastructure as Code and safely modify it
Reason about Azure resource dependencies and networking paths
Debug why a service cannot reach a database, Key Vault, queue, or private endpoint
Explain trade-offs between public access, private networking, managed identity, firewalling, and operational simplicity
Draw reliable conclusions from code, logs, metrics, traces, Azure diagnostics, and documentation
Communicate risks and implementation options clearly
7. Other Details
Full-time employee (40 hours/week)
Reports to Global Head of R&D and Software Engineering
Location: Amsterdam, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin, London
Compensation depending on qualifications and experience
Hybrid work model
Background screening is part of the hiring process
