Role Overview

Sector Business Development Managers focus on developing new high value target accounts for DHL Global Forwarding UK in a defined business sector or industry vertical. The Sector Business Development Manager occasionally supports colleagues in other sales channels to win business for the Sector, but their main activity should be to drive individual pipeline and new business in the sector, by their individual activity as a hunter.

Key Responsibilities:

Find and develop High Value Target customers for DHL Global Forwarding UK.

Develop significant business from new, existing or lapsed customers. For existing customers the SBD will identify share of wallet / potential.

Represent DGF and the wider DHL leading and supporting the relationship with key customers.

Work proactively with target customers to improve their supply chains and the use of DHL products.

Liaise with Product / Station teams in UK, to align on business growth for the station.

Build a substantial new business pipeline; identify short, medium and long term targets.

Work with DHL product and station teams to provide innovative and profitable solutions that solve customer challenges / issues.

Proactively develop current service offerings and continuously strive to ensure DHL meets its customer’s expectations.

Strategic Business Development Managers are responsible for finding new business for DGF UK. This is achieved by pipeline development within a group of pre-identified prospects.

Duties will be selected from the following list of activities:

Formulate and present strategies that will grow and develop new business.

Ensure all relevant RFQs are actioned in a professional and timely manner.

Meet agreed KPIs for business development activity, including use of in-house systems.

Produce and analyse management reports and attend management meetings. Together with the team

Input in to the formulation and execution of Win Plans

Manage, participate and lead meetings that achieve new business results.

Ensure compliance with statutory and company regulations and policies.

The role is largely about new business development, in the sector

Ensures that all interactions are compliant with DPDHL Code of Conduct and other compliance requirements e.g. anti-corruption

Contribute to the First Choice continuous improvement program

Skills and Experience:

Able to find and develop business from new and existing customers

Proven solution design and problem solving skills

Excellent negotiation skills

Strong presentation skills

Good networking and influencing skills

In-depth understanding of the Freight Forwarding Industry

Ability to balance conflicting priorities

IT - generalist knowledge - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM etc.

Requirement to travel internationally when justified by business development

10 years forwarding and or relevant transport, supply chain, logistical experience including demonstrable experience in customer facing roles. Significant knowledge of the different transportation modes for both import and export.

Post Graduate or Equivalent preferred but not essential

HOURS/SHIFT PATTERN: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

REPORTS TO: Head of Consumer & Retail
