The Team You’ll Join

Reporting to the Head of Total Rewards & Payroll, you will join a high-impact, global team of compensation, benefits, payroll, and equity professionals. We operate in a highly collaborative, hybrid environment, partnering closely across People & Culture and the broader Envestnet organization to deliver strategic, business-aligned outcomes.

How You’ll Contribute

The Director, Payroll & Equity is responsible for the operational leadership, governance, and compliance oversight of the company’s global payroll and equity administration functions. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing and equity administration across all applicable jurisdictions, including support for legacy public‑company equity vestings within a private company environment.

The Director partners closely with Finance, Legal, P&C Operations, and external vendors to maintain strong controls, regulatory compliance, and a consistent employee experience. This role balances hands‑on operational oversight with disciplined governance, risk management, and team leadership.

Global Payroll Operations & Governance

Oversee global payroll operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across all supported countries.

Establish and maintain payroll governance frameworks, controls, documentation, and approval standards to support audit readiness and risk management.

Monitor changes in payroll‑related legislation and ensure ongoing compliance in partnership with Finance and Legal.

Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, discrepancies, and regulatory matters

Equity & Deferred Compensation Administration

Oversee administration of equity and deferred compensation programs, including legacy public‑company equity vestings.

Ensure accurate tracking, vesting, taxation, reporting, and reconciliation of equity awards.

Manage equity administration platforms and records (e.g., Carta, Fidelity), ensuring data integrity and alignment with payroll and finance systems.

Support equity‑related communications, reporting, and employee inquiries.

Compliance, Controls & Reporting

Ensure compliance with payroll tax, wage and hour, equity, and deferred compensation regulations across jurisdictions.

Oversee payroll‑ and equity‑related audits, filings, reconciliations, and internal controls, including SOX‑related requirements where applicable.

Provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership on payroll accuracy, equity activity, risks, and trends.

Vendor & Systems Management

Manage relationships with payroll providers, equity administrators, and other external partners.

Partner with HRIS and Finance systems teams to ensure accurate integrations, data flows, and system configuration.

Support system enhancements, upgrades, automation, and process improvements related to payroll and equity administration.

Cross‑Functional Partnership

Partner closely with Finance, Legal, P&C Operations, and Total Rewards to ensure alignment of payroll and equity practices with company policies and governance standards.

Support executive compensation and Board‑related reporting as required.

Collaborate on year‑end activities, audits, and regulatory reporting.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead and develop payroll and equity administration team members across regions.

Set clear priorities, performance expectations, and operational standards.

Build team capability through coaching, documentation, process standardization, and knowledge sharing.

Ensure continuity, scalability, and strong execution during critical payroll and equity cycles.

What You’ll Need to Bring

8+ years of progressive payroll and equity experience

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Human Resources, or related, or equivalent combination of relative experience and education

Progressive experience leading payroll operations and/or equity administration in a multi‑jurisdiction environment.

Strong working knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour, equity, and deferred compensation compliance requirements.

Experience managing vendors, systems, and complex operational processes.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive disciplined execution in a controls‑focused environment.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience supporting a private company with legacy public‑company equity programs.

Familiarity with equity administration platforms and payroll systems integrations.

Strong cross‑functional partnership skills with Finance, Legal, and P&C

Proven prior success with Workday system.

Our Investment in You

This role offers a base salary range of $125,900 - $157,400. The range listed represents a good-faith estimate of base salary compensation for this position and does not include incentive compensation, equity or benefits. Individual pay will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. This role is eligible for an additional incentive component as part of the total rewards package.
