Post Summary

The practice education team are accountable for the design, delivery, and development of quality practice education placement of undergraduate occupational therapy students, ensuring their competence and fitness to practice within the Irish Health Service. This post, Academic Clinical Specialist in Practice Education, has been developed in response to the continued expansion of the Occupational Therapy programme aligned with increased demand from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) to accommodate a growing population and the corresponding need to training programmes.

The primary aim of the post is to enhance placement capacity by providing additional support to practice educators, developing and project managing innovative placement models that strengthen capacity and contributing to the advancement of practice education within the Discipline. The post requires an experienced Occupational Therapist to work as part of the practice education team.

The successful applicant will be expected to support practice educators and mentor undergraduate students throughout their placement experiences. This will also include supporting sites with no practice tutor, providing support to practice educators in emerging placement sites, and providing supervision on role emerging placements with no practice educator. The post holder will be based in Trinity College Dublin but as part of this role, will routinely visit placement sites. In addition, the post holder will engage in and contribute to research in the field of practice education and actively and collaboratively contribute to the academic and professional life of the Discipline, School, College, and wider community.

Post status: 4 year Fixed-Term Contract

To support the delivery of a four-year project arising from increased student numbers and associated service requirements. The requirement for the post is temporary and project-specific, with the role required only for the duration of the project. The contract will therefore terminate upon completion of the project.

Hours of Post: Hours of work for academic staff are those as prescribed under Public Service Agreements.

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapy Grade (€72,119 - €83,689) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)
