POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled backend-focused Senior Software Engineer - Backend to join our modernization team focused on transforming the legacy CVS pharmacy systems into a cutting-edge, cloud-native platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As part of the team, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing microservices that drive the modernization of critical patient and drug domains. You will work on integrating cloud-native solutions, enhancing performance, and ensuring seamless operation within a highly scalable and secure environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in backend development, system design, and a strong understanding of cloud-native software engineering principles.

Preference is for candidates to work hybrid out of our corporate office in Woonsocket, RI or Hartford, CT; remote will be considered for candidates not in close proximity to an office.

Expectations for the Role

Develop and maintain backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot

Build and integrate APIs (both GraphQL and REST) for scalable service communication

Deploy and manage services on Google Cloud Platform (GKE)

Work with Google Cloud Spanner (Postgres dialect) and pub/sub tools like Confluent Kafka (or similar)

Automate CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Argo CD

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot

2+ years working with APIs (GraphQL and REST) in microservices architectures

2+ years hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure

2+ years working with pub/sub tools like Kafka or similar

2+ years’ experience with databases (Postgres or similar)

2+ years’ experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, or similar)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform

Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts; experience deploying services on GKE is a plus

Strong understanding of microservice best practices and distributed systems

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (High School Diploma and 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$92,700.00 - $203,940.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
