About the role
Join the Kanata Operations Team! We are looking for a talented and motivated Mechanical Assembler to join our growing team.
The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling semi‑finished or finished mechanical components and sub‑assemblies from engineering drawings and assembly instructions to meet production schedules, quality requirements, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble mechanical parts using hand tools, power tools, and/or automated equipment (e.g., torque wrenches, drills, belt conveyors)
Interpret and follow engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions with high precision
Inspect components and sub‑assemblies for dimensional accuracy, defect tolerance, and alignment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to minimize workplace hazards
Log production data, quality metrics, and any deviations in the appropriate production tracking system (e.g., Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 6S, Kaizen) to enhance workflow, reduce waste, and improve product quality
Communicate with Production Supervisors, Engineers, and Quality Assurance about part variations, shortages, or quality issues
Assist in the setup and calibration of assembly equipment and tools.
Adhere to regular calibration schedules for tools and equipment, ensuring that all instruments are calibrated on time and meet quality standards.

Problem‑Solving: Quickly identifies root causes of assembly or quality issues and proposes solutions
Adaptability: Adjusts to changing production priorities, schedules, or designs
Safety Awareness: Strictly follows Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and company safety guidelines; proactive in hazard identification.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical assembly processes
Ability to provide feedback and recommend improvements to product designs based on hands-on assembly experience
Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one
Exceptional dexterity and attention to detail in all aspects of the assembly process
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
Familiarity with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 or other quality management systems relevant to the defence and aerospace industry
Awareness of and adherence to calibration schedules for tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning and precision during assembly.
Additional skills desired for the role
Desired Skills:
Ability to work in a production floor environment, standing for extended periods, and using fine motor skills
Must be able to handle components and tools that may require precision and fine manipulation.
Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
Experience with the following but not required:
ISO 9001
Joint Health & Safety
Secret clearance.
Generally has one or more years of related experience and holds a High School diploma or equivalent.
