Your career path could surprise even you, there's so much variety.

You have the opportunity to gain a wealth of expertise and a diverse range of skills, providing insight and knowledge without losing sight of your work-life balance or wellbeing.

In this role, you'll:

Lead the strategic modelling and optimisation of the state’s structural and operating asset portfolio, including bridges, tunnels, and vehicular ferries. The role is responsible for developing whole-of-life management strategies and intervention standards to enable evidence-based investment decisions.

You will achieve this by:

Leading the lifecycle optimisation of the structural network by managing asset management systems and developing predictive models for structural deterioration, fatigue, and corrosion.

Perform complex scenario analysis to evaluate policy options such as bridge strengthening versus replacement and forecast long-term funding needs to meet future freight and traffic demands.

Establishing and maintaining robust asset data governance frameworks, specifying data collection requirements for complex inspections to ensure the accuracy of information used for strategic planning.

Developing and refining technical standards and maintenance policies for structures and operating assets, ensuring alignment with Australian Standards, maritime regulations (for ferries), and heritage legislation.

Performing environmental and sustainability modelling, supporting the integration of low-carbon materials and climate resilience into structural lifecycle strategies.

Translating strategic modelling outputs into clear investment strategies, providing the foundation for regional teams to develop their tactical maintenance and renewal plans.

This is a permanent opportunity and is located from any of our state-wide office bases (Grafton, Newcastle, Parkes, Milsons Point, Wollongong or Wagga).

For more information about this role please view the role description and information pack.

About you:

The role will require:

Demonstrated experience in the lifecycle management of civil structures, including an understanding of deterioration mechanisms (e.g., fatigue, corrosion) and the development of strategies for major rehabilitation versus replacement.

Proven ability to apply lifecycle cost analysis to complex structural assets, balancing the trade-offs between immediate preservation works, heritage conservation obligations, and heavy vehicle network access.

High-level communication skills, with the ability to translate complex structural engineering concepts into clear strategic advice to influence investment decisions and funding allocations

Essential requirements:

A four-year Civil Engineering degree from an Australian University or an equivalent overseas qualification recognised under the Washington Accord. Alternatively, relevant tertiary qualifications in a related technical discipline combined with significant industry experience.
