About the role

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Information Management and Technology Division (IMTD) provides secure, reliable and integrated information and technology platforms, systems and services that transform education environments, and enable a great education outcome for every child and young person.

IMTD guides the technology capability and leads digital transformation for the Department including Victorian government schools and early learning and childcare centres. The Division architects, manages and supports the largest technology network in Victoria, supporting a user base of approximately 750,000 staff and students.

With a notable recent increase in cyber-attacks and cyber risks to schools and departmental operations, the privacy and safety of staff and students in online environments is a key priority. The Information Security Services (ISS) branch ensures schools, and the department have the highest security standards, guidelines, and best practice. ISS assesses cyber risks by third parties, new and existing technology services and ensures all parties comply with the department's security policies.

The purpose of the Information Security Services (ISS) branch:

establish the requirements for a safe and secure online environment for the department and schools; and

provide assurance to the CIO, Information Management and Technology Committee, Executive Board, and the government through Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) that the strategic information security risk is being managed.
