The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Information Management and Technology Division (IMTD) plays an essential role in delivering technology services to our schools, corporate and early learning environments through one of the largest and most complex technology networks in Victoria. Our network spans across schools and corporate serving more than 1,500 government schools, 50,000 teachers, and 650,000 students.

About the Role

This is a fixed term position until 30-06-2027

The Principal Front-End Developer will help establish and lead front-end development practices across a portfolio of digital products and platforms.

Working closely with Experience Designers, Functional Analysts, Architects and delivery teams, you will help translate design systems into reusable components, improve consistency across applications and provide technical leadership across internal teams and System Integrator (SI) partners. As our primary front-end specialist, you'll play a key role in shaping how we build user experiences across Salesforce, ServiceNow and Microsoft platforms.

Establish and maintain a reusable front-end component library, ensuring consistency, accessibility and alignment with enterprise design systems.

Define and evolve front-end development standards, patterns and best practices to support scalable and maintainable digital products.

Partner with internal developers and System Integrator teams to provide technical guidance, conduct code and design reviews, and promote consistent implementation approaches across platforms.

Develop documentation, reference implementations and governance processes that enable teams to efficiently adopt and contribute to shared front-end assets.

Partner closely with Experience Designers to translate design concepts, prototypes and design system components into high-quality, accessible user interfaces.

Work with designers to establish and maintain design-to-development workflows, standards and documentation

Support design quality through implementation reviews, ensuring delivered experiences align with approved designs, accessibility requirements and enterprise standards

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Experience building modern web applications using React, Typescript and contemporary front-end frameworks.

Experience with Salesforce Experience Cloud, Lightning Web Components (LWC) or ServiceNow front-end development

Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2)

Experience reviewing and assuring vendor or SI-delivered solutions
