Job Summary:

Supermicro is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Center Controls Engineer to define and implement the controls, monitoring, and integration requirements for next-generation modular data centers (DCBBS) and customer data center deployments. This role will be a key technical contributor in establishing controls standards, sequence of operations, alarm strategies, sensor and monitoring requirements, and BMS/EPMS integration to ensure reliable, coordinated operation across power, cooling, liquid cooling, and infrastructure systems.

The successful candidate will develop controls basis of design and templates for repeatable deployments, coordinate interfaces with vendors and design partners, review submittals and integration documents, and support commissioning planning to achieve operational readiness and reduce integration risk for accelerated customer deployments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead the development of controls basis of design (BOD), sequence of operations (SOO), alarm matrices, sensor requirements, monitoring requirements, and integration standards for DCBBS projects and customer deployments.

Create and maintain standard controls templates, points lists, control diagrams, and integration checklists to enable repeatable, scalable DCBBS deployments.

Coordinate BMS, EPMS, liquid cooling, mechanical, and electrical control interfaces with vendors, design partners, and internal engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration.

Support commissioning planning by defining testable control sequences, alarm strategies, trend logs, functional performance tests, and acceptance criteria.

Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural, and product teams to align controls logic with power, cooling, liquid cooling, and infrastructure requirements.

Provide technical guidance during construction, vendor coordination, submittal reviews, and commissioning activities to identify and resolve controls issues and ensure operational readiness.

Capture lessons learned from projects and contribute to continuous improvement of controls frameworks, documentation, alarm strategies, and deployment processes.

Additional Responsibilities:

Act as subject matter expert (SME) on data center controls systems, including BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA, industrial protocols, and integration for mission-critical facilities.

Mentor junior controls engineers and collaborate effectively with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams.

Provide technical training on controls standards, sequence of operations, commissioning processes, and troubleshooting for internal teams.

Engage with industry partners, vendors, and technology providers to evaluate emerging controls platforms, automation technologies, and best practices for data center applications.

Qualifications:

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field.

Minimum 10 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or systems integration within data center, mission-critical, industrial, or large-scale facility environments.

Strong experience with BMS/EPMS architectures, DDC, PLC, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).

Demonstrated ability to develop and review sequence of operations, points lists, control diagrams, and integration documents.

Experience supporting commissioning activities, including defining test scripts, functional testing, troubleshooting, and system validation.

Proven ability to coordinate with vendors, contractors, and cross-discipline teams (electrical, mechanical, etc.) on complex controls projects.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail for point-to-point accuracy and data integrity.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (approximately 20-25%).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering.

Experience with hyperscale data centers, liquid cooling systems, or advanced GPU infrastructure monitoring and controls.

Hands-on experience with specific platforms such as Ignition SCADA, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, Automated Logic WebCTRL, Johnson Controls Metasys, or similar.

Familiarity with ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines and documentation standards.

Professional certifications such as ISA CCST, PE license, or equivalent in controls/instrumentation.

Experience with controls programming, HMI development, network troubleshooting, and field-to-dashboard diagnostics.

Demonstrated success in fast-paced, matrixed organizations with strong stakeholder management and vendor oversight.
