Your impact
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our Highways & Roads team in Ontario . In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity and improve communities. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in shaping roadway design solutions from concept through to detailed design.
As part of our growing transportation team, you’ll work on major roadway and highway projects across Ontario. You’ll support the development of innovative, sustainable, and technically sound design solutions while helping deliver projects that keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead roadway and highway designs, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading
Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and contract documents (CPS)
Collaborate across the CADD team to develop engineering drawings and models
Ensure designs meet MTO standards, and manuals, TAC guidelines, OPSS/OPSD requirements, applicable municipal standards, and client requirements.
Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and QA/QC processes
Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (drainage, traffic, utilities, structures) to deliver integrated design solutions
Support project delivery through planning, preliminary, detailed design phases, and tender package preparation.
Conduct design reviews, value engineering, constructability assessments, and QA/QC processes
Develop and review construction staging, phasing, and traffic management strategies
Prepare Design Criteria Reports (DCR) and other technical deliverables
Identify design risks and coordinate resolutions with internal teams, subconsultants, clients, and stakeholders
Participate in client and stakeholder meetings
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
Here's what you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
At least 4-8 years of experience in roadway/highway design and familiarity with MTO standards
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario
Experience delivering preliminary and detailed design and preparing DCRs, SCRs, and tender documentation (CPS)
Strong understanding of traffic staging, construction sequencing, and constructability reviews
Proficiency in quantity take-offs and cost estimating
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication skills, and teamwork skills

114,000.00
Posted Salary Range: Upper
150,000.00
The base salary range for this position is $114,000.00 to $150,000.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across Ontario, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
