Senior Accountant (Finance Operations) at Singapore's leading AI training provider
Full-time | Singapore | Finance | Onsite
The opportunity
Vertical Institute has trained over 50,000 professionals across B2C and B2B corporate programmes. That scale and breadth means the finance function here is genuinely interesting - you will work across a full set of accounts, multiple revenue streams, grants administration, and tax compliance in a fast-moving environment that most Senior Accountant roles simply cannot offer.
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a lean, high-calibre finance team reporting directly to the Head of Finance. You will take end-to-end ownership of the accounting function - from month-end close and revenue recognition through to audit preparation and grant compliance - and play a meaningful role in building the financial infrastructure that supports the company's next stage of growth.
Candidates from Big Four or mid-tier public accounting firms who are ready to make the move into industry are strongly encouraged to apply. The technical breadth here - full-set accounts, revenue reconciliation across multiple platforms, grants compliance, and statutory reporting - is meaningfully more substantive than most first industry roles at this level.
What you will own Financial Accounting and Reporting
Managed the full set of accounts, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, right-of-use assets, and bank reconciliations.
Led month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring management accounts, balance sheet schedules, and reconciliations were completed accurately and on schedule.
Ensured proper revenue recognition across deferred revenue, contract liabilities, and various revenue streams.
Performed revenue reconciliations across CRM systems, learning management platforms, payment gateways, and accounting software to maintain consistency across records.
Prepared financial reports and analyses to support management reporting and business decisions.
Compliance, Audit and Tax
Prepared audit schedules and coordinated with external auditors throughout the statutory audit process.
Supported the preparation and submission of GST returns, Estimated Chargeable Income, and corporate tax filings in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Maintained accounting records and audit-ready documentation for statutory audits and government programme reviews.
Ensured compliance with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards and internal finance policies.
Government Grants and Funding Compliance
Managed financial administration and claims submissions for government-funded programmes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely filing.
Maintained compliance with SSG funding requirements and supporting documentation standards for grant audits.
Assisted with grant compliance reviews and funding-related enquiries, applying knowledge of programme structures and funding requirements.
Finance Operations and Process Improvement
Oversaw daily finance operations, including vendor payments, learner fee collections, employee expense claims, and payroll reconciliations.
Reviewed and enhanced internal controls, accounting processes, and finance SOPs to strengthen operational effectiveness and audit readiness.
Identified opportunities for automation and implemented improvements to reporting processes, particularly within Xero and integrated finance systems.
What we look for
Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline, with professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CA Singapore, or equivalent being advantageous.
4–7 years of accounting experience, ideally with a combination of audit and commercial finance exposure.
Strong technical knowledge of SFRS, GST, revenue recognition, and accrual accounting principles.
Demonstrated experience managing full-set accounts and independently handling month-end close processes.
Exposure to government grants or SkillsFuture funding frameworks would be an added advantage.
Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar accounting systems, with strong Excel capabilities for reporting and reconciliations.
Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
