Project Accountant

The opportunity

Downer is seeking a commercially astute Project Accountant to partner with project and operational teams across a growing Energy & Utilities portfolio. This role is critical in delivering accurate reporting, strong financial control, and improved project outcomes.

What you’ll do

Business partner with Project Managers to deliver financial outcomes and project performance insights

Manage month-end reporting, forecasting, and budgeting cycles

Ensure accurate WIP, billing, cost and revenue tracking

Provide variance analysis, profitability insights, and EAC forecasting

Monitor and enforce financial controls, Governance & Delegations of Authority

Support cash flow management and working capital optimisation

Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and performance analysis

Drive continuous improvement across financial processes and reporting

What we’re looking for

Tertiary level qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (CA/CPA highly regarded)

Experience in project accounting within construction, utilities, or infrastructure

Strong understanding of contract environments and project financials

Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, JDE or similar)

Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to influence project teams

Ability to manage tight deadlines in fast-paced project environments
