Exciting Opportunity: Employee Relations Lead

Are you looking to make a meaningful impact within a supportive and dynamic team? The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is seeking an experienced HR Professional to join our People and Culture division as the Employee Relations Lead. This role requires a calm and considered leader who can navigate complex and sensitive matters, operate within established frameworks and drive consistent ER outcomes across the NHVR. This role is available at one of our locations in Adelaide, Brisbane, or Parramatta.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all heavy vehicles with a gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes. We are headquartered in Brisbane and employ more than 1000 people across the ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria

In this role, you will lead a team of two direct reports and be responsible for the delivery of consistent Employee Relations (ER) outcomes across the NHVR. You will operate as a senior ER practitioner, setting standards for ER standards and providing clear and practical guidance to leaders. You'll manage a variety of operational tasks, including case management, workplace investigations, entitlement applications, stakeholder engagement and training. Additionally, the role offers the opportunity to work on key projects that contribute to the growth and success of NHVR.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and develop the Employee Relations Advisor and Payroll team, encouraging performance and team development

Operate as the point of contact for complex employee relations escalations, providing expert guidance to managers and HR support

Manage key ER initiatives such as Enterprise Agreement negotiations, workplace training, and payroll projects

Offer advice on interpreting and applying Agreements, policies, procedures, and the Fair Work Act

Handle case management and investigations involving conduct, performance, safety issues, and public interest disclosures, ensuring consistency and fair application of policies

Maintain composure under pressure and de-escalate sensitive matters.

Develop and deliver clear, practical and timely internal communications related to employee relations

Update or implement ER policies and procedures in line with legislative changes or emerging trends

Manage relationships with outsourced payroll providers, employee relations partners, and union officials

Provide reporting on ER matters as required

Qualifications & Experience:

A strong understanding of Employee Relations, including terms and conditions of employment, workplace procedures, and employment law

Proven ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate effectively to achieve team success

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities

Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders while focusing on urgent and important outcomes

Highly Regarded:

Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business

At least 7 years of experience in ER/IR/HR advisory or business coaching or partnering roles.
