Details: The Assistant Director, Communications and Engagement is part of the Communications, Engagement and Media Branch within the City and Environment Directorate. The team provides strategic communications and engagement support to a range of complex and high-profile projects delivered across the Directorate.

Working under limited direction, the role is responsible for developing and delivering integrated communications and engagement strategies that align with the Directorate and whole-of-government priorities. This includes producing high-quality, audience-focused content across a range of channels and ensuring consistent, effective messaging.

The Assistant Director will collaborate across the branch and Directorate, building strong stakeholder relationships to support coordinated and timely communication outcomes.

The role requires a motivated, organised professional with strong communication, stakeholder engagement and project management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

The occupant will demonstrate ACTPS values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration and Innovation and operate in accordance with the ACTPS Code of Conduct. This position may support the Public Information Coordination Centre (PICC) during Territory emergencies.

Professional / Technical Skills and knowledge

Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating insights driven communications campaigns and engagement strategies within set deadlines, including managing associated issues and establishing priorities.

Demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders such as ministerial and executive staff, stakeholders, other directorates, contractors, community groups, businesses and media.

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under limited supervision and exercise initiative in a complex and dynamic work environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills for a wide range of communications channels including digital content.

Relevant tertiary qualifications such as in communications, marketing and/or public relations is highly desirable.

Accreditation under the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) is highly desirable.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to eight months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.
