The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud (VMware) Platform Engineer to join a high performing engineering team in Sydney. This is a senior hands-on role focused on designing, building, and supporting enterprise-grade virtualisation and container platforms across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.

You will play a key role in platform delivery, onboarding new tenants and services, managing infrastructure lifecycle activities, and ensuring platforms remain secure, scalable, highly available, and operationally efficient.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver new platform capabilities across VMware, OpenShift, backup, and storage environments, including transition to operational support teams.

Onboard platforms to enterprise security controls, including vulnerability management and security compliance processes.

Identify, remediate, and manage infrastructure vulnerabilities and security findings.

Integrate platform assets with privileged access management solutions, including TPAM and Safeguard.

Plan and execute tenant and host migration activities.

Onboard new tenants to VMware and OpenShift platforms.

Perform platform performance optimisation, health checks, and capacity planning.

Configure and support LDAP, Active Directory, and user access management integrations.

Manage and maintain VMware vSphere infrastructure.

Build and configure new ESXi hosts and clusters.

Support platform lifecycle management, patching, upgrades, and operational readiness activities.

Contribute to automation, standardisation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the platform environment.

What You’ll Need

Strong experience with VMware technologies including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and NSX-T.

Hands-on experience deploying, administering, and supporting OpenShift (OCP 3.x/4.x) clusters.

Strong understanding of Kubernetes, containers, registries, operators, and container networking.

Experience working with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Git, Jenkins, and GitLab CI.

Exposure to enterprise security tooling and processes, including vulnerability management, Nessus, penetration testing, and Prisma.

Strong Linux administration experience, particularly RHEL and CentOS.

Solid understanding of storage and networking fundamentals, including NFS, iSCSI, load balancers, DNS, and TLS.

Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Splunk.

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is advantageous.

Exposure to GitOps, Service Mesh, API Gateways, or ArgoCD is beneficial.

Scripting experience with Bash, Python, or similar technologies is desirable.

VMware or Red Hat/OpenShift certifications are highly regarded.

Previous experience within telecommunications or large enterprise environments is advantageous.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.

Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills.

Ability to support on-call or 24x7 operational environments as required.
