Are you passionate about building globally distributed software to that operates at AWS's internet edge and beyond? Amazon Web Services Internet Edge Services organization is reimagining how the internet's edge operates through innovative software solutions. As a Software Development Manager, you'll work on AWS's global network to build and operate global decision-making traffic optimization solutions, unlock new use cases and deliver network experiences that delight our customers.

In this role, you will lead a team of software development engineers to understand requirements and extend platforms that support software-defined networks (SDN). You are joining a high performing team interacting closely with other engineering teams across USA and Australia.

Key job responsibilities

Lead an established high performing team to identify opportunities and deliver software defined traffic engineering solutions for AWS's internet edge networks leveraging your software background.

You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing indistinguishable from perfect global network at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

A day in the life

Manage sprint planning for your in-flight projects.

Prepare a project report for Director level review.

Review a high level solution design and coordinate its review with key stakeholders.

Lead a review of operational metrics to ensure continued improvement in the security, availability and effectiveness of services you own.

Drive process and software improvements across the space

Ensure your software engineers have a clear list of goals and projects to deliver and handle escalations from director level down

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of engineering team management experience

7+ years of engineering experience

8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
