Principal Engineer/Senior Principal Engineer, Cloud and Platform Engineering

OVERVIEW

DSTA’s Cloud and Platform Engineering team designs, builds and operates secure, scalable and resilient platform products and services that support MINDEF/SAF’s digital systems.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer with strong technical depth to drive the architecture, engineering and operations of platform capabilities across infrastructure, application and developer platform domains. These may span technical areas such as infrastructure, network, identity, automation, observability, backup, security, compliance, developer enablement, CI/CD, platform operations, and data and AI services across public cloud and on-premise cloud environments.

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team comprising developers, architects, cloud infrastructure and network engineers, cybersecurity experts and UX designers who are passionate about creating meaningful and impactful platform products and services. You will also be exposed to complex challenges, and work alongside thoughtful, intelligent individuals who lead with curiosity, empathy and optimism.

There will also be opportunities for you to guide and mentor engineers, and contribute to the growth of technical capabilities within the team.

Lead the technical design, development and operations of cloud and platform engineering products and services to support mission-critical systems.

Architect, build and enhance platform capabilities across infrastructure, application and developer platform domains.

Design and implement secure, scalable and reliable platform products and services across public cloud and on-premise cloud environments.

Provide deep technical leadership in areas such as infrastructure, network, identity, automation, observability, backup, security, compliance, developer enablement, CI/CD, platform operations, and data and AI services.

Drive engineering decisions, design reviews and technical trade-offs to ensure platform solutions meet functional, operational and security requirements.

Develop and improve platform automation, integration and operational workflows to enhance reliability, consistency and efficiency.

Work closely with architects, engineers, operations and cybersecurity teams to translate requirements into robust engineering solutions.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across platform environments, and lead root cause analysis to improve system resilience and service quality.

Contribute to platform architecture, engineering standards, reference designs, best practices and technical roadmaps.

Guide and mentor engineers in technical design, implementation and problem-solving, and support the development of engineering capabilities within the team.

Ensure platform solutions are aligned with relevant policies, standards and security requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields.

At least 5 years of relevant technical experience, in cloud engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, systems engineering or related domains.

Candidate with more than 10 years of relevant working experience may be considered for more senior position.

Strong hands-on experience designing, building and operating platform product and services in public cloud and/or on-premise cloud environments.

Good technical understanding of infrastructure, network, identity, security, automation, observability and operational practices in platform environments.

Experience with platform automation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, application common services and system integration.

Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, architecture, operations and cybersecurity.

Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written, to positively influence key stakeholders and deliver technical concepts clearly across different audiences.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Possess a passion for innovation and emerging technologies.
