Backend Engineer / Data Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer / Data Engineer to join our team on a 7-month contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms that support business-critical applications.

This role requires hands-on experience in cloud technologies, automation, infrastructure management, and data engineering practices. You will work closely with software developers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and data processing solutions.

Build and manage cloud-native infrastructure using modern technologies and best practices.

Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployment and testing processes.

Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize platform reliability.

Design and maintain data pipelines to support analytics and business operations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve application performance, scalability, and security.

Implement security controls and ensure compliance with organizational standards.

Maintain technical documentation and provide operational support for platform services.

Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Requirements

Mandatory Skills

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in Backend Engineering, Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering.

Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Strong experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python, Bash, or Shell scripting.

Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar technologies.

Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

Knowledge of backend application architecture and API development.

Experience building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.

Understanding of networking, cloud security, and platform reliability concepts.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
