Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring Epic EMR proficiency and a strong medical-surgical background, working 12-hour night shifts at an acute care hospital.

Details

Acute care hospital setting on a 32-bed Med/Surg unit (currently operating at 20 beds)

Diverse patient population including chest pain, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic, detox, post-op surgical, and pediatric patients

Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 1:5; unit staffs both RNs and LPNs with 3 aides per shift

Respiratory therapy support available for CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen management

Telemetry strips are read by the ICU and faxed to the Med/Surg nurse for documentation

RNs are not required to titrate drips

Epic EMR experience is required

12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)

Night shift weekend coverage includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; every other weekend required

Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff

No on-call or standby requirement

Floating to other units as a tasker or extra support is required

Manager-driven scheduling with openness to block scheduling based on traveler preferences

Requirements

Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required

Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required

Strong medical-surgical background required due to the high variety of patient diagnoses

Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Epic EMR experience required

BSN not required

Must provide a valid, unexpired driver's license for consideration

Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

Orientation consists of 3–5 days of on-unit training including a facility tour, policy review, and department-specific training (MedTech, pharmacy, and lab)

A House Supervisor manages assignments for nurses and aides; no charge nurse is present on the unit

Scrubs of any color are acceptable, with the exception of camouflage and orange

Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered

Former permanent staff of Garrett Regional Medical Center are not eligible to return as travelers

Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break

Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time

A driver's license copy, two references (including one supervisor reference), skills checklist completed within the past year, and copies of certifications are required for consideration
