Position Summary
The Senior Manager – Quality Control is responsible for leading and managing all quality control activities across steel and power manufacturing operations. The role ensures compliance with customer specifications, national and international quality standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality management systems. The incumbent will drive continuous improvement initiatives, process optimization, defect reduction, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence throughout the manufacturing value chain.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Management & Compliance
Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Control systems and procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and applicable industry standards.
Ensure compliance with customer specifications, statutory regulations, and product quality requirements.
Establish quality objectives, KPIs, and monitoring mechanisms for steel and power plant operations.
Lead quality audits (internal, external, customer, and certification audits) and ensure timely closure of observations.
Steel Manufacturing Quality Control
Oversee quality control activities for:
Raw Materials (Iron Ore, Coal, Coke, Fluxes, Scrap, Ferro Alloys)
Sinter Plant
Blast Furnace / DRI Plant
Steel Melting Shop (SMS)
Continuous Casting
Rolling Mills
Finished Steel Products
Monitor chemical, physical, and mechanical testing of products.
Ensure adherence to BIS, ASTM, ISO, EN, JIS, and customer-specific standards.
Analyze process capability and product quality trends to minimize rejection and rework.
Power Plant Quality Assurance
Monitor quality parameters related to captive power generation operations.
Ensure compliance with operational and maintenance quality standards for boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
Coordinate testing and analysis of water chemistry, coal quality, ash handling, and environmental compliance parameters.
Support reliability and efficiency improvement initiatives.
Laboratory Management
Manage metallurgical, chemical, and mechanical testing laboratories.
Ensure calibration, maintenance, and certification of laboratory equipment and instruments.
Validate testing methodologies and maintain laboratory accreditation requirements.
Ensure accuracy, reliability, and traceability of quality data.
Process Improvement & Problem Solving
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for quality deviations, customer complaints, and process abnormalities.
Utilize Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, SPC, FMEA, 8D, CAPA, and other quality improvement tools.
Drive reduction of customer complaints, internal defects, and quality-related costs.
Implement preventive and corrective actions for recurring quality issues.
Customer Quality Management
Interface with customers regarding quality requirements, audits, complaints, and technical clarifications.
Lead investigations and corrective actions for customer complaints.
Ensure timely preparation and submission of quality certificates, test reports, and compliance documentation.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop QC engineers, metallurgists, laboratory personnel, and quality inspectors.
Conduct performance evaluations, competency development, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Analyze quality metrics, process performance data, and customer feedback.
Prepare monthly quality reports, management reviews, and improvement action plans.
Present quality performance dashboards to senior management.
