About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Systems Operations Engineer.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex, broad impact initiatives including provision of high level systems consultation for the technology teams
Work as key participant in large scale planning of computer systems and network infrastructure for Systems Operations functional area
Review and analyze complex technical challenges, as well as escalated support issues related to core business solutions that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors, such as alternatives, enhancements, periodic systems reviews, or improvements to existing systems
Make decisions on technical changes and enhancements
Consult with engineering team on change design requiring solid understanding of technical process controls or standards that influence and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with technical peers, colleagues, and mid to more experienced level managers to resolve systems support issues and achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Improve system reliability, availability, and performance
Define and manage SLOs, SLAs, and KPIs
Lead incident response and resolution for critical issues
Conduct root cause analysis and implement fixes
Enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability
Automate manual operational tasks
Support releases and change management
Optimize system performance and scalability
Implement resilience and capacity planning
Engage stakeholders and communicate business impact
Proactively review existing applications and infrastructure stacks to identify reliability gaps and systemic weaknesses
Diagnose performance bottlenecks across batch, real-time, and upstream/downstream dependencies
Drive data-backed discussions with application development, infrastructure, and business teams to prioritize fixes
Influence and negotiate with stakeholders to implement platform improvements that reduce incident frequency
Demonstrate measurable reduction in production incidents, MTTR, and operational escalations
Improve system observability leading to faster detection and resolution of issues
Transition manual recovery activities into automated or self-healing capabilities
Establish a culture of reliability engineering and proactive risk management across teams
10+ years in SRE, Production Support, or Infrastructure Engineering
Experience supporting high-availability systems
Strong scripting skills (Python, Shell, etc.)
Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace)
Understanding of Linux/Unix and distributed systems
Experience in incident management
Experience with front office trading & associated overnight batch systems
Knowledge of trading workflows and market operations
Experience with CI/CD tools
Familiarity with cloud platforms
Focus on automation and reliability engineering
Support critical systems during trading & overnight batch hours
Participate in on-call rotations
Collaborating with global teams
Demonstrate ownership and accountability
10+ years in SRE, Production Support, or Infrastructure Engineering
Experience supporting high-availability systems
Strong scripting skills (Python, Shell, etc.)
Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace)
Understanding of Linux/Unix and distributed systems
Experience in incident management

Flexibility to work in a 24/7 environment, including weekends, holidays and on call
Effective communication skills to work across global teams and time zones
Ability to operate independently with a strong ownership and accountability mindset.
Ability to analyze, define and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environments, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks, controls, and outputs using standard methodologies
Ability to participate in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies of new technologies
