About the Opportunity
We’re growing our new Employment Plus consultancy team and are looking for a proactive and highly organised Operations Manager to play a key role in its success.
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a visible and impactful position, where you’ll shape how the team operates day-to-day, ensuring client work runs smoothly, processes are efficient, and commercial objectives are achieved.
Working closely with the Partner who heads up Employment Plus, you’ll act as the operational backbone of the practice, bringing structure, insight and continuous improvement to everything we do.
Please note: This role can be based in any UK office but requires regular (weekly) travel to our Manchester office.

What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be at the heart of the team, making sure everything runs seamlessly - from managing workflows to supporting client delivery and driving operational improvements.
Leading Day-to-Day Operations
Oversee the smooth running of the Employment Plus team
Acting as the lead contact for our self-employed Employment Plus Consultants
Balance workloads and ensure resources are used effectively
Keep client projects on track and delivered to agreed timelines
Proactively identify and resolve challenges or bottlenecks
Continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency and performance
Take ownership of triaging the investigations stream
Supporting Client Delivery & Contracts
Oversee client contracts, renewals and key commitments
Manage external consultant onboarding and contracts
Ensure documentation is accurate, current and compliant
Track key milestones and support high-quality client service delivery
Driving Financial Performance
Ensure invoicing is accurate, timely and well-managed
Monitor WIP, revenue and billing performance
Work closely with Finance to resolve queries and improve cash collection
Provide clear, insightful reporting to support decision-making
Contributing to Business Growth
Partner with Business Development teams to identify cross-selling opportunities
Help maintain a strong pipeline and re-engage dormant clients
Support proposals, sales discussions and BD initiatives
Develop and organise compelling business development materials
Supporting and Developing the Team
Help the team stay focused, organised and aligned on priorities
Support recruitment, onboarding and training activities
Contribute to performance and development conversations
Foster a collaborative, positive and high-performing culture
Ensuring Compliance and Continuous Improvement
Ensure operations meet firm policies and regulatory standards
Identify and manage risks, escalating where needed
Conduct IR35 reviews for external consultants
Lead on improving systems, processes and ways of working
Support implementation of new tools and technologies
Project Work
Take the lead on ad-hoc operational or business improvement projects
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience
Experience in an operations, practice management, project or business management role
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Commercial awareness, including financial processes and performance tracking
Confident stakeholder management and communication skills
Experience in a law firm, consultancy or professional services environment
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and practice management systems
Desirable
Experience with client contracts and invoicing processes
Line management or team leadership experience
Track record of improving processes or driving operational change
