SUMS Process Architect (Software Update Management System)

Assignment Overview

We are seeking an experienced SUMS Process Architect to define, develop, and maintain the process landscape for Software Update Management Systems (SUMS). In this role, you will ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as UNECE R156 and technical standards like ISO 24089 for road vehicle software updates.

You will play a central role in integrating software update processes across the entire vehicle lifecycle—from concept and development to production, operation, and decommissioning.

As a key interface between governance, engineering, and compliance functions, you will ensure that processes are robust, auditable, and adaptable to evolving requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As a SUMS Process Architect, you will:

Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the SUMS process architecture across the vehicle lifecycle

Translate regulatory and standard requirements into practical, traceable, and auditable processes

Ensure compliance with UNECE R156, ISO 24089, and other applicable standards

Define process interfaces, governance structures, roles, responsibilities, KPIs, and evidence requirements

Align governance structures across group, brand, and project levels

Support engineering teams and projects in implementing SUMS processes effectively

Define process and tool requirements for implementation and monitoring

Support audits, assessments, milestone reviews, and corrective actions

Drive continuous improvements based on findings, risks, and regulatory developments

Required Qualifications

University degree in a relevant technical field

Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken)

Required Experience & Competence (Must-Have)

Experience in:

Process development or process architecture

Management systems or system engineering

Embedded systems or automotive software development

Strong understanding of regulated product development environments

Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical process solutions

Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, compliance, IT, and product teams

Strong stakeholder management and alignment skills

Analytical mindset with the ability to simplify complex topics

Self-driven, structured, and able to take ownership from analysis to implementation

Meritorious (Nice-to-Have)

Knowledge of UNECE R156, ISO 24089, GB/T 44496, or similar standards

Experience with:

Software Update Management Systems or Cyber Security Management Systems

Type approval, homologation, or regulatory compliance

Embedded software releases, OTA updates, diagnostics, or workshop updates

Audits, quality assurance, or evidence-based compliance

Familiarity with:

Software update traceability and validation processes

Product data and configuration management (PDM, ECOs, variant handling)

Background in automotive or other regulated industries
