The role:

Associate – Leveraged Finance – 4pqe+

You will join a highly regarded Leveraged Finance team that advises on complex, high-value financing transactions, often cross-border, for private equity sponsors, investment banks, private credit funds and corporate borrowers.

Work includes:

Leveraged and acquisition financings

Refinancings, recapitalisations, and syndicated lending

Acting for both sponsor and lender-side clients

Multi-jurisdictional transactions with complex structures

The Department:

Banking and Finance

Mayer Brown's banking and finance practice is a founding practice of the firm and continues to represent one of Mayer Brown's signature strengths. Many of our largest clients are bank holding companies, leading asset managers, commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, leasing companies, asset-based lenders or institutional real estate companies.

Our Banking & Finance practice also represents numerous finance companies and fixed income funds, mezzanine investors, hedge funds, financial service boutiques, spin-offs and other financial institutions and investors, as well as a large number of borrowers operating in many different businesses and industries.

As financial institutions and asset managers become one-stop shops and transactions increasingly combine a broader range of products, the number of law firms that can meet all these requirements under one roof is declining. Mayer Brown is one of the few that has both the breadth of offering and the international platform to service these needs—particularly when markets are volatile and deal structures can change overnight.

Responsibilities:

Advise on leveraged and acquisition finance transactions for sponsors and lenders.

Draft and negotiate credit agreements, security documents, and intercreditor agreements.

Manage transactions from inception to closing, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.

Collaborate with colleagues across global offices on multi-jurisdictional matters.

Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes:

A qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with at least 4 years post qualification experience.

Experience, skills and personal attributes:

Strong technical skills with experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating documentation;

Prior Leveraged Finance experience is essential;

Experience from a highly ranked practice or team;

Experience in advising on cross border matters is key;

Working as part of a team and taking an active part in sharing knowledge and experience with the team;

Excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style;

Ability to work effectively within an established, close-knit team;

Be a self-starter, and be willing to be challenged by taking on work outside their comfort zone

Demonstrate ability to confidently interact with clients and develop business pro-actively;

A commercial and pragmatic outlook;

Have attained degree certificate(s) from a reputed institution, achieving a minimum grade of 2:1 or equivalent.
