Department Summary:
EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This position works in communications systems to help us support the next generation of satellite communications. The successful candidate will have various responsibilities ranging across monitoring the overall network health of our next-generation LEO/GEO satellite communication systems, to helping develop tools to support AI in Live OPS. The position will be located at our office in Gaithersburg, MD.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop tools and enhance scripts (primarily using Python or similar scripting languages) to support data collection, basic processing, and reporting for Live Operations
Support the collection and preparation of operational and network data for analysis, dashboards, and AI/ML use cases under guidance from senior team members
Perform routine data analysis to identify basic trends, anomalies, and system performance issues, and help translate findings into clear summaries
Help create and update dashboards and reports used for monitoring system health and operational performance
Assist with configuring and deploying reporting or analysis applications, following established procedures and documentation
Work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams (network, software, hardware, and operations) to support connectivity analysis and operational tasks
Participate in daily operational activities, including system monitoring, data validation, and basic troubleshooting with supervision
Support testing and validation activities for software and hardware releases, upgrades, and integrations
Provide remote support assistance to field and installation teams by helping prepare configurations and reviewing required setup information
Maintain documentation and operational records, including project updates, incident tracking, and analysis notes, and communicate updates to appropriate stakeholders
Skills, Experience and Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
2+ years of experience with intermediate knowledge of load balancers, firewalls, and wireless technologies and security
2+ years of satellite ground network installation, commissioning, connectivity, and other test experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency with programming for data analysis, ideally using Python (or R) and basic SQL for querying and data manipulation
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical work and communicate findings clearly
Experience with Git and GitLab, including cloning repositories, committing changes, creating merge requests, and following established team workflows
Ability to analyze data, identify trends or issues, and summarize results in a clear and structured manner
Strong interest in AI/ML concepts, data analytics, and operations systems, with enthusiasm for learning and skill development
Foundational understanding of data communications and networking concepts, such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, WAN, Ethernet, and basic VoIP/SIP principles
Basic exposure to telecommunication systems, including system analysis, planning, and troubleshooting concepts
Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail in operational environments
Exposure to or interest in satellite communication systems (GEO/LEO/MEO) and their operational concepts (CONOPS) is a plus

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.

Salary Range: USD $80000.00 - $100000.00 / Year
