Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and driven Engineering Technologist to join our team and contribute to the analysis, development, and implementation of engineering technologies across a range of projects. This role is suited to a technically minded professional who thrives on problem-solving, continuous improvement, and bridging the gap between engineering theory and practical application. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate existing systems, recommend enhancements, and ensure new technologies are rigorously tested and ready for deployment. If you have a passion for innovation and a methodical approach to engineering challenges, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse existing engineering technologies to assess performance, identify inefficiencies, and determine opportunities for improvement or replacement. - Develop and present well-researched recommendations for upgrading or optimising current technologies, ensuring alignment with project goals and industry best practice. - Design, conduct, and oversee structured testing procedures for both new and modified technologies, accurately recording findings and preparing detailed technical reports. - Prepare and review technical drawings, schematics, and models of new technologies using CAD or other relevant software tools. - Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to support the end-to-end delivery of engineering projects, from concept through to implementation. - Assist in the evaluation and selection of materials, components, and systems that meet project specifications, safety requirements, and budget constraints. - Monitor engineering processes and outputs to ensure compliance with relevant Australian and international standards, codes, and regulations. - Investigate technical problems and equipment failures, conducting root cause analysis and contributing to the development of effective corrective actions. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, including test records, specifications, and project progress reports. - Support continuous improvement initiatives by researching emerging technologies and contributing to the development of innovative engineering solutions. - Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and external technical specialists as required to support procurement and project delivery activities. - Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians and support staff where required.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. - Demonstrated experience in an engineering technologist or similar technical role within a relevant industry. - Strong ability to analyse complex technical data and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations. - Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent) and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings and models. - Sound knowledge of relevant Australian standards, codes of practice, and workplace health and safety legislation. - Experience conducting and documenting technical testing procedures in a structured and methodical manner. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional technical reports and present findings to diverse audiences. - Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workloads, and meet project deadlines. - High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all technical work. - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership with Engineers Australia or a relevant professional engineering body. - Postgraduate qualifications or professional development certifications in a specialised engineering discipline. - Experience working within industries such as infrastructure, manufacturing, resources, or defence. - Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools such as MS Project or similar platforms. - Exposure to lean engineering, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement frameworks. - Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) or digital engineering practices.
