Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Architectural Draftsperson to join our team and play a vital role in translating architectural concepts into precise, construction-ready drawings and documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, engineers, and construction professionals to support the delivery of high-quality built environment projects. This role suits a technically proficient individual with a strong understanding of drafting principles, building regulations, and industry-standard software. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed preliminary sketches, working drawings, construction documents, and technical specifications in accordance with project requirements and Australian standards - Interpret and apply architectural plans, building codes, and regulations to produce accurate and compliant documentation - Assist architects, construction managers, and surveyors in the planning, coordination, and organisation of project deliverables across all design phases - Develop, edit, and revise plans, maps, charts, and technical drawings to reflect design changes, client feedback, and on-site conditions - Coordinate and manage works programmes, ensuring drawing schedules align with project timelines and construction milestones
- Produce and maintain organised drawing registers, revision schedules, and project filing systems in line with company standards - Utilise CAD and BIM software to create, manage, and issue drawings, models, and associated project documentation - Assist in the preparation of planning and development applications, including site plans, elevations, and supporting materials - Conduct quality checks and reviews of drawings produced by junior drafting staff to ensure accuracy and consistency - Liaise with project stakeholders to gather and incorporate technical information, survey data, and site measurements into documentation - Support the broader project team with any additional drafting, coordination, or administrative tasks as required
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Architectural Drafting, Building Design, or a related discipline from a recognised Australian institution - Demonstrated experience in an architectural drafting or building design role, ideally within a residential, commercial, or mixed-use context - Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software, such as AutoCAD or similar platforms, with working knowledge of BIM tools such as Revit or ArchiCAD - Sound understanding of Australian building codes, standards, and planning regulations, including the National Construction Code (NCC) - Strong ability to read, interpret, and produce technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents to a high standard - Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to organising and managing documentation - Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise clearly with architects, contractors, and project stakeholders - Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines within a fast-paced project environment - Experience coordinating drawing packages across multiple project stages, from concept through to construction - A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Building Design, or a related field - Membership with or eligibility to join the Building Designers Association of Australia (BDAA) or a relevant professional body - Experience working with sustainable design principles and familiarity with Green Star or NatHERS rating tools - Exposure to large-scale commercial, industrial, or civic projects is highly regarded - Knowledge of 3D visualisation or rendering software such as SketchUp, Lumion, or similar platforms - Experience preparing documentation for development applications and obtaining construction certificates
