Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Other Draftsperson to join our team and contribute to the preparation of accurate technical drawings, plans, and illustrations across a range of specialised engineering disciplines. This role is well suited to candidates with experience in electronic engineering, mining, or shipbuilding environments who possess a strong command of CAD software and drafting principles. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with engineers, clients, and project teams to deliver high-quality documentation that meets precise specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, plans, and illustrations in accordance with client specifications, relevant industry standards, and regulatory requirements - Utilise CAD software and other drafting tools to produce accurate, precise, and professionally presented technical documentation - Consult with clients and collaborate with engineers, designers, and other technical professionals to ensure all drawings and plans align with project requirements and objectives - Interpret and translate engineering briefs, sketches, and data into clear and technically sound drafting outputs - Review and revise drawings throughout the project lifecycle to incorporate design changes, client feedback, and updated specifications - Maintain organised and up-to-date records of all drawings, revisions, and project documentation in line with company and client standards - Ensure all drafting work complies with applicable Australian and industry-specific codes, standards, and safety regulations - Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support timely delivery of documentation packages - Conduct quality checks on completed drawings to verify accuracy, consistency, and conformance with project specifications - Support the development of technical reports, schedules, and supporting documentation as required by the project team - Assist in the preparation of tender and construction documentation where required across electronic engineering, mining, or shipbuilding projects
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a Certificate III or IV in Drafting, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience - Demonstrated experience in a drafting role within electronic engineering, mining, shipbuilding, or a related technical field - Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or equivalent drafting platforms - Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and project briefs accurately - Sound understanding of Australian drafting standards and relevant industry codes and regulations - Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing precise and error-free technical documentation - Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, engineers, and project teams - Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workloads to meet project deadlines - Registration or licensing as required by the relevant state or territory authority
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Drafting, Engineering Design, or a related technical field - Experience across more than one specialisation, such as electronic engineering, mining detail, or shipbuilding drafting - Familiarity with 3D modelling software or Building Information Modelling (BIM) platforms - Knowledge of project management tools and document control systems - Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure, resource, or maritime projects in an Australian context
