The Senior Business Consultant is a senior manager responsible for leading complex business and technology transformation initiatives within the insurance domain. This hybrid role provides end-to-end consulting leadership, with a strong focus on legacy platform modernization to Sapient platforms, while overseeing project execution and resource alignment.
Acting as a trusted advisor, the consultant bridges business and technology, drives strategic alignment, and ensures high-quality delivery across cross-functional teams including Consultants and Business Analysts.
Key Responsibilities
Consulting & Strategy
Serve as a strategic advisor to business and technology stakeholders, aligning solutions to business objectives, KPIs, and operating models.
Leads the development of IT strategy by understanding business processes, policies, information and information systems.
Translate business needs into roadmaps, capabilities, and actionable transformation strategies.
Provide thought leadership on insurance trends, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.
Project & Resource Oversight
Provide oversight across multiple projects/workstreams, ensuring delivery quality, timelines, and alignment to strategy.
Coordinate and optimize resource allocation, guiding Consultants and Business Analysts.
Attracts, retains, and enables the career development of top talent.
Improves team performance, recognizes and rewards performance, coaches employees, supports their development, and manages poor performance.
Assess risks, impacts, and dependencies, adjusting priorities as needed.
Business Analysis & Solution Delivery
Lead end-to-end business analysis, including requirements elicitation, process modeling, and solution validation.
Break down complex problems, analyze data, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
Ensure alignment between business requirements and technical design, particularly in platform transformation initiatives.
Review and ensure quality of deliverables (e.g., requirements documents, process flows, data models).
Platform Transformation (Legacy → Sapient)
Lead or support the migration from legacy insurance systems to Sapient platforms.
Define target-state processes, integration approaches and guides architectures.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure scalable, business-aligned solutions.
Support adoption of Agile delivery models, API-based integrations, and modern digital platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change
Build strong relationships across business, IT, and vendor teams.
Facilitate workshops, steering committees, and executive-level communications.
Lead change management efforts, including stakeholder alignment, readiness, and adoption strategies.
Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement
Ensure adherence to enterprise governance, risk, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct root-cause analysis and support resolution of complex issues.
Promote continuous improvement, consulting best practices, and capability uplift across teams.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in business consulting, business analysis, or transformation delivery
Strong insurance industry expertise, including:
Life & Annuities
Group Annuities / Pension Risk Transfer
Retail Insurance products
Policy administration, underwriting, and advisory
Demonstrated experience in legacy modernization and platform transformation (Sapient or similar platforms preferred)
Solid understanding of:
SDLC methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid)
System integrations and enterprise ecosystems
Data analysis, process modeling, and requirements frameworks
Proven ability to lead through influence, manage ambiguity, and drive outcomes without formal authority
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills
Business Analysis certification (CBAP or equivalent) is an asset
Success Profile
Strategic and hands-on individual contributor
Deep insurance SME with transformation experience
Effective at coordinating resources, influencing stakeholders, and driving delivery
Experienced in complex system migrations and consulting-led engagements
Salary:
$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

This Other role pays $95k-$176k/yr. Within typical range for other roles in Canada.
