Job Overview:

As the VP, Software Development Manager at LPL Financial, you will lead and mentor a team of software engineers, overseeing the design, development, and delivery of critical wealth management technology solutions. You will be instrumental in setting technical direction, driving innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of delivery and efficiency in our software products.

Responsibilities:

Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and deployment

Define and implement technical strategies and best practices to ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of LPL's software platforms

Collaborate closely with product management, business stakeholders, and other engineering leaders to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Drive architectural decisions and ensure adherence to established architectural guidelines and principles

Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring timely and successful delivery of software initiatives

Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and support the professional growth and development of team members

Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges throughout the development process.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential application within LPL Financial.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred

15+ years of progressive experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role

Proven experience leading and managing high-performing software development teams

Strong technical background with expertise in modern software architecture patterns, development methodologies (Agile/Scrum), and programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript)

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and distributed systems

Solid understanding of database, data-modelling and data-engineering technologies (relational and NoSQL, Python,Glue,Sparc,Kafka,Flink or other streaming technologies)

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization

Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset

Experience working with AI tools including co-pilot, claude code is highly preferred

Experience in the financial services industry is highly desirable.
