About the Role
Brooksource Engineering Services is seeking an Automation Engineer to support a major warehouse expansion project for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. This role focuses on hands-on engineering activities for automated material handling systems, including Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and supporting automation infrastructure.
You will work closely with engineering and operations teams to install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain automation equipment, ensuring reliable performance and smooth integration into existing systems. This is a technical contributor role—not a project leadership position—ideal for engineers with strong mechanical and electrical fundamentals and experience in automated warehousing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Support commissioning, qualification, and troubleshooting of ASRS and AGV systems.
Perform mechanical and electrical diagnostics on automation equipment, including robotics, conveyors, and control systems.
Assist with integration of new automation assets into existing infrastructure.
Interpret facility drawings and verify material flow paths for efficiency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve automation issues and improve reliability.
Execute preventive maintenance tasks, spare parts planning, and AutoCAD job plans.
Support validation activities (commissioning, qualification, and Computer System Validation).
Maintain compliance with GMP and safety standards throughout all activities.
Minimum Requirements
Strong foundation in mechanical and electrical systems (motors, drives, sensors, actuators).
Hands-on experience with automation equipment such as robotics, conveyors, and vision systems.
Familiarity with Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs and basic troubleshooting of control circuits.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and facility drawings.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ASRS and AGV systems in automated warehousing environments.
Exposure to robotics integration and vision systems (Keyence, Cognex).
Knowledge of system integration protocols (OPC, IoT standards like REST/MQTT).
Commissioning and qualification experience in regulated environments.
Familiarity with data visualization tools (PowerBI) for performance monitoring.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
Additional Information:
Standard 8-hour workdays with occasional after-hours support.
Occasional travel for training and capital projects.
Compensation
This Test Automation Engineer role pays $120k-$150k/yr. Within typical range for test automation engineer roles in United States.
