About the role

Finance Manager

at Singapore's leading AI training provider

Full-time | Singapore | Finance | Onsite

The opportunity

Vertical Institute has trained over 50,000 professionals across B2C and B2B programmes. That scale and breadth means the finance function here is genuinely interesting - you will work across multiple revenue streams and business models in a fast-moving environment that most finance roles at this level simply cannot offer. For the right person, it is exactly the kind of role that accelerates a career.

We are looking for a Finance Manager to join a lean, high-calibre finance team led by a Head of Finance with a Big Four background. You will report directly to the Head of Finance, work closely with the CEO on financial reporting, and take real ownership of the accounting, compliance, and operational finance functions that keep the business running.

Candidates from Big Four or mid-tier public accounting backgrounds who are ready to move into industry are strongly encouraged to apply. The exposure here - multi-stream revenue models, and a fast-moving commercial environment - is meaningfully different from what most industry finance roles offer at this level.

What you will own

Accounting and financial reporting

Own the month-end close process end-to-end: journal entries, reconciliations, and management accounts prepared accurately and on time.

Prepare schedules, working papers, and supporting documentation for the audit cycle.

Assist in preparation of IRAS filings and statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with applicable reporting standards.

Produce financial reports and variance analyses for the Head of Finance and CEO, with clear commentary on what the numbers mean.

Grants compliance and revenue recognition

Oversee claims processing for SSG and IBF government-funded programmes, working closely with the grants team to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Maintain rigorous revenue recognition across funded and non-funded cohorts, including deferred income tracking and accrual management.

Uphold documentation standards required for QMS compliance - the kind of rigour that protects the company's accreditation.

Support responses to regulatory or funding body queries, drawing on a thorough understanding of grant frameworks and programme structures.

Operations, controls, and business partnering

Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, learner account collections, and settlement queries.

Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and SOPs - building the kind of infrastructure that makes audits straightforward.

Support payroll processing and staff expense claims with accuracy and discretion.

Assist with financial modelling and scenario analysis as the business evaluates new programmes, pricing structures, and growth decisions.

Manage day-to-day relationships with external auditors, tax agents, and banking partners.

What we look for

We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in the quality of their work and holds themselves to a high standard without needing to be pushed. Beyond that:

Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CA qualified, or actively pursuing qualification.

3 to 6 years of relevant accounting or finance experience. Experience in a training or education environment is an advantage, not a requirement.

Familiarity with government grant processes is a meaningful differentiator.

Hands-on with accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, or equivalent) and strong in Excel for reporting and analysis.

Solid technical grounding in revenue recognition, deferred income, and accrual accounting - you understand the principles, not just the mechanics.

Able to manage multiple deadlines independently in a lean team where everyone carries real accountability.

Why this role

Strong leadership above you

Your direct manager is a former PwC professional and former CFO of a large MNC. The quality of mentorship and technical standard-setting here is not typical for a company of this size.

CEO proximity

You will produce reporting directly consumed by the CEO and participate in financial discussions at the business level - not just the accounting level.

Genuine complexity

Government grant frameworks, multi-stream revenue models, deferred income management, and audit readiness across funding bodies. The work is substantive.

Room to own

A lean team means real accountability from day one. Strong performers here grow fast - in scope, seniority, and compensation.
