About the role

Hi, Future Homie!

At Homebase, you’ll join a team that’s bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team.

We’re not just building an app—we’re building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in?

Your Impact Starts Here

We’re looking for a Fullstack Growth Engineer II who thrives at the intersection of product thinking, engineering execution, and experimentation.

You’ll independently own backend-first product and growth initiatives that help customers discover value faster, engage more deeply, and get more from Homebase. Working primarily in Ruby on Rails while contributing across the stack, you'll partner closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to identify opportunities, ship experiments, and improve customer outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to shape customer experiences that directly influence growth while helping define how modern AI-enabled product development operates at Homebase. If you love moving quickly, learning from data, and shipping meaningful customer impact, we want to hear from you.

These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:

Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, application logic, and data models in Ruby on Rails

Own and deliver growth initiatives from concept through launch and iteration

Build customer-facing product experiences across the Homebase platform

Contribute to React and TypeScript applications where needed to deliver end-to-end solutions

Design, build, and evaluate experiments that improve activation, engagement, retention, and monetization

Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering stakeholders to identify and prioritize opportunities

Leverage analytics and experimentation data to inform product decisions

Implement and improve experimentation frameworks, analytics instrumentation, and growth tooling

Use AI tools and automation to improve engineering velocity and team effectiveness

Drive technical quality through testing, code reviews, operational excellence, and thoughtful architecture

Mentor junior engineers through collaboration, feedback, and example

Balance speed and quality while maintaining strong customer outcomes

The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:

2–5 years of software engineering experience building customer-facing web applications

Strong professional experience building backend systems and customer-facing applications with Ruby on Rails

Working knowledge of React, TypeScript, and modern frontend development practices

Ability to contribute effectively across the stack while maintaining a backend-first focus

Strong product sense and ability to evaluate tradeoffs through both customer and business lenses

Demonstrated experience using AI tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity

Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data teams

Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity

Ability to collaborate in person at the Toronto hub on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Bonus points if you bring:

Experience working in a product-led growth environment

Experience with experimentation platforms and A/B testing frameworks

Experience with feature flagging systems

Experience using analytics tools to evaluate product outcomes

Experience building internal tooling that improves product velocity or experimentation workflows

AI-First Expectations - We expect engineers to thoughtfully incorporate AI into their daily workflows and continuously evaluate how new tools can improve productivity, software quality, and delivery speed. In this role, you will:

Use AI tools to accelerate development, research, debugging, testing, and documentation

Measure and improve the effectiveness of AI-enabled workflows

Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work and improve engineering efficiency

Share best practices and help teammates improve their use of AI tooling

Contribute to a culture of experimentation and continuous learning

The Homie Way - These principles guide everything we do—from how we work and make decisions to how we show up for each other.

Be Customer Obsessed – Solve problems with empathy and creativity.

Move Fast, Learn Fast – Experiment, take action, and grow every day.

Own Your Impact – Think big, focus on what matters, and make decisions you stand behind.

Master Your Craft – Excellence fuels impact—show up, step up, and make your mark.

Win Together – Put goals over roles, lead with trust, and connect to our mission and each other.
