Hybrid

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI location three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership in software quality, validation, and automation, along with the ability to lead teams through ambiguous scope, shifting requirements, urgent issue triage, and cross-functional alignment. This leader will work closely with development, product, design, systems, and release stakeholders to improve test coverage, reduce launch risk, and deliver high-quality customer-facing software experiences.

What You'll Do

Lead and develop a team of software quality and automation engineers responsible for connected applications and adjacent experience-verification scope across multiple programs and releases.

Own quality strategy for connected application features, balancing manual validation, automation, triage, and launch-readiness activities across evolving product scope.

Partner with software development teams, product managers, designers, and peer quality leaders to clarify requirements, identify gaps and overlaps, and align ownership across system-level and component-level testing.

Lead the team through issue triage, defect prioritization, and early root-cause analysis, especially when urgent software issues threaten validation timing or launch readiness.

Build and scale automation for smoke, sanity, regression, and pre-build workflows; use dashboards and data to improve visibility, coverage, and execution efficiency.

Support bench, vehicle, and test-environment readiness to ensure the team can execute validation effectively across programs and hardware configurations.

Help shape practical, scalable processes for traceability, test ownership, reporting, and cross-functional readiness reviews.

Communicate status, risks, staffing needs, and tradeoffs clearly to leadership, peers, and partner teams using concise, data-driven updates.

Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement across quality engineering and automation practices.

Hire, coach, and develop employees; set expectations, provide feedback, support career growth, and strengthen the overall capability of the organization.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another related technical field, or equivalent experience.

8+ years of relevant engineering experience in software quality, validation, test automation, or software development.

5+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams.

Experience leading quality efforts for customer-facing software systems across development, integration, and validation environments.

Working knowledge of software test planning, defect management, automation frameworks, and release-readiness practices.

Experience collaborating across software development, product, systems, and program teams.

Demonstrated technical leadership, including the ability to understand complex systems, make sound decisions, and explain tradeoffs clearly.

Strong communication, prioritization, and organizational skills in fast-moving environments with competing demands.

Ability to lead through ambiguity, remove roadblocks, and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with GM software development, validation, and issue-management processes.

Experience with Jira, Xray, dashboards, and other tools used to manage test plans, defects, and execution visibility.

Hands-on experience with software test automation for smoke, sanity, regression, and pre-build workflows.

Experience validating software across bench, lab, and vehicle environments, including coordination of hardware, flashing, and infrastructure readiness.

Familiarity with CCU/VCU validation, infotainment systems, connectivity-adjacent workflows, and distributed software systems.

Experience leading teams that balance manual testing with automation while adapting to frequent requirement changes and launch pressure.
