About the role

We are looking for a visionary UX Designer who sits at the intersection of art and technology. This person

brings a strong visual and graphic design sensibility alongside hands-on IT fluency — someone equally at home

sketching a service blueprint on a whiteboard and producing pixel-perfect prototypes in Figma. You will be

embedded across delivery teams, working directly with clients to imagine, visualize, and validate digital

products before a single line of code is written. This is not a front-end development role — it is a creative,

research-driven, client-facing design position that shapes how users experience the solutions we build.

This role is remote, with an expectation of periodic onsite work to support client and team needs. On-site frequency will vary based on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end UX engagements: discovery, user research, journey mapping, wire-framing, prototyping, and design validation.

Conduct user interviews, stakeholder workshops, and usability testing sessions to surface insights that drive design decisions.

Produce high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and design systems in Figma (or equivalent tool) that bring client visions to life.

Develop service blueprints, personas, user flows, and experience maps that communicate the full service landscape across front- and back-stage.

Facilitate co-design sessions with clients and end users, helping non-technical stakeholders clearly see and react to proposed solutions.

Champion accessibility and Section 508 / WCAG compliance in all design artifacts.

Establish and maintain UX standards, reusable component libraries, and design governance practices across multiple project portfolios.

Mentor junior designers and advocate for human-centered design principles within technical delivery teams.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

7–10+ years of UX/service design experience with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work for complex digital systems.

Expert proficiency in Figma (or Adobe XD / Sketch); able to build interactive, client-ready prototypes independently.

Demonstrated background in visual/graphic design, fine arts, illustration, or a related creative discipline — an eye for aesthetics is essential.

Strong service design practice: experience producing service blueprints, journey maps, and experience frameworks across multi-channel services.

Comfortable in client-facing settings — skilled at facilitating workshops, presenting design rationale, and incorporating feedback constructively.

Solid understanding of IT systems and application architecture; able to speak credibly with developers without being one.

Experience working in Agile / DevSecOps delivery environments alongside engineering teams.

Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA) and federal digital service guidelines (USWDS or equivalent).

Cross-functional collaborator who thrives being distributed across multiple teams and programs simultaneously.

Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting federal, defense, or public-sector digital transformation programs.

Familiarity with user research analysis tools (Dovetail, Miro, Optimal Workshop).

Background in content design, information architecture, or UX writing.

Agile, IDEO, or formal UX certification (Nielsen Norman Group, etc.).

Additional Information

Successful completion of a client-required background investigation and suitability determination will be required.

The ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance may be required based on the engagement.

Bachelor's degree in Design, Visual Arts, Human-Computer Interaction, Communications, or a related field. Master's preferred for SME-level candidates.

Agile or UX certification preferred (e.g., Nielsen Norman UX Certificate, Certified Usability Analyst).

A portfolio of work is required and will be reviewed during the interview process.
