About Lloyd’s List Intelligence
Lloyd's List Intelligence (LLI) is a leading global maritime intelligence platform, providing data, analytics and insight to the world's shipping, trade and financial communities. With the backing of more than 300 years of maritime intelligence, our products help clients navigate maritime risk including sanctions compliance, counterparty risk — some of the most complex and consequential compliance challenges in global trade.
Role Overview
We are a lean, ambitious legal and compliance team — three people supporting a global business — and we need someone who can hit the ground running on the basics while developing quickly into broader and more complex work. You will work across the entire business: product, commercial, finance, technology, HR and senior leadership. You need to be credible in a room with smart, senior people, and comfortable asking questions and pushing back when something does not look right.
We are PE-backed and in an exciting phase of growth, which means the right person joining now will have real visibility, real responsibility, and a genuine opportunity to grow fast.
Key Responsibilities
Support governance and risk management processes, including maintaining risk registers, policy frameworks and compliance calendars.
Assist with sanctions screening processes and monitoring developments in sanctions regimes relevant to our products and clients.
Monitor regulatory developments across relevant jurisdictions (UK, EU, US, Singapore, UAE and others) and brief the team on material changes.
Administer internal policies — keeping them current, accessible and understood across the business.
Support due diligence processes, including vendor and counterparty assessments.
Assist with data protection compliance (UK GDPR) in coordination with our DPO function.
Help prepare materials for board and leadership governance meetings.
Field day-to-day compliance queries from colleagues across the business — being a useful, approachable first point of contact.
Support day-to-day compliance operations and internal control processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Intellectually sharp — able to read complex material quickly, extract what matters and communicate it clearly.
Proactive — spotting issues before they are raised, flagging risks without being asked, following through without needing to be chased.
Professionally confident — comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and external advisers without needing a script.
A strong written communicator — your emails and briefing notes should need minimal editing.
Comfortable with technology and genuinely curious about AI — you do not need to be a data scientist, but you should be at ease adopting new tools, experimenting with AI-assisted workflows, and thinking about how emerging technology can make compliance work smarter and faster. We use and build intelligence products ourselves; a natural affinity for technology is a real advantage here.
Genuinely interested in compliance as a discipline, not just a job title - understanding of sanctions, KYC or data privacy regulations, or familiarity with compliance monitoring tools or screening platforms will be a real advantage here.
A law degree, compliance qualification, or relevant work experience in a compliance, legal or regulatory environment would be advantageous. But experience matters less than ability and attitude. We will teach you. What we cannot teach is curiosity, drive and sound judgement.
What We Offer
Competitive Salary and employee benefits.
Training and development — including support for relevant professional qualifications.
Direct mentorship from the General Counsel and senior legal team.
Exposure to a genuinely complex, global business operating at the intersection of data, AI and human expertise.
Real responsibility from day one — this is not a support role with a compliance label.
Opportunity to develop a career in compliance and risk within a global intelligence business.
