About the role
Job Summary
In this role you will be responsible to lead, develop and drive the overall strategic direction and business plan for Tanzania by orchestrating an ongoing planning process which produces a clear and compelling vision and mid- and long-term business objectives.
Job Responsibilities
Lead, monitor and evaluate the operation’s performance to ensure increased profitability, productivity and market share
Develop and gain approval for the annual business plan, operating plan, and operating budget, based on SPI’s overall business strategy & plan and budget
Support standardization and a KPI driven culture to optimize efficiencies and control costs
Manage on-going business, financial and operating performance relating to the plans and budgets, on a quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily basis. Provide timely and accurate reporting on financial, quality and operating results and special projects and initiatives
Monitor and oversee quality and safety procedures to ensure they are in line with Swissport’s International safety and quality standards
Lead, guide, evaluate and develop a team with operational and financial responsibilities to increase organizational effectiveness and create cost efficiencies
Serve as the primary external ambassador for the customers
Ensure the company is in compliance with all local and international required regulatory
Develop and execute an organizational plan for all key functions. Ensure that major functional shortcomings in the organization are addressed and that appropriate succession plans are developed and implemented
Provide strong and inspired leadership in a dynamic environment to all employees, promoting and maintaining high employee morale. Establish high expectations for all employees with regard to performance and adherence to company values
Manage relationships with senior representatives of various key industry stakeholders including our JV partner, employees, social partners, suppliers, various levels of government regulators, airport authorities, and local communities
Contribute to the setting of the strategic direction and strategic objectives in line with corporate plans
Operations
Oversee, the day-to-day operations ensuring adherence to high levels of safety, security, cost control, customer service delivery (on-time performance, baggage delivery etc.) and the overall financial performance of the operations
Drive quality improvement and unit cost reduction programs to cope with competitive requirements
Display, and act on, a real and ongoing concern for the delivery of outstanding customer service and operating integrity by probing into daily operating performance and spending time “in the field” and actively drive the Health & Safety culture in the organisation.
Sales & Marketing
Exploit all cross-selling opportunities in close cooperation with SPI’s other business lines worldwide through the network, specific countries and by product lines. Identify potential M&A opportunities to enlarge the business and presence in the area
Working through the sales and marketing functions, ensuring that Swissport translates its customer value proposition into workable product and service attributes that can be easily and efficiently implemented in the field day-to-day.
Ensure that the company’s services are properly marketed and that handling agreements are concluded in co-operation with the regional/cluster sales team.
Key Performance Indicators
Operational KPIs (productivity, workforce utilisation (overtime), OTP, Check-in waiting times, baggage delivery times)
Health & Safety KPIs (A/C damages, damages to GSE & Infrastructure, occupational accidents, LTI)
Financial performance (e.g. revenue, EBITDA, EBIT, cash generation/management incl. DSO/DPO etc.)
Commercial KPIs (e.g. Customers won/lost ratio)
Quality KPIs (e.g. ISO audits / airline audits & Customer satisfaction survey results)
HR KPIs (e.g. personnel turnover and absences ratios)
Qualifications and Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree with a relevant finance qualification, MBA or other advanced degree
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a management role - Minimum 5 years proven experience of leading teams and getting results in a multi-cultural environment
Experience in the ground handling industry will be considered a strong advantage
Advanced understanding of financial measures & knowledge of labour law and regulations
A respected industry leader with a successful background and proven track record in high volume - low margin – high labour industries such as Transportation & Logistics
Skilled and experienced negotiator with customers and regarding industrial relationship matters with the trade unions
Possess strong market credibility gained through results achievement (meaningful top-line revenue drive as well as bottom-line cost / efficiency management) and exceptional client relationship
Advanced strategic skills and commercial acumen combined with the ability to motivate teams to deliver high quality standards
Highly developed interpersonal skills, high energy, personal presence and maturity as components of leadership ability in order to facilitate the best decision making and achieve results
Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress and crisis situations.
Personal and professional integrity of the highest order
Fluent command of English.
