Job Description
Summit Construction, LLC, a national general contractor with 30 plus years in the commercial construction industry, is looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Assistant Project Manager in the Bakersfield, CA market.
Position Overview
The Assistant Project Manager will support the project management team in planning, coordinating, and executing commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role works closely with subcontractors, vendors, superintendents, clients, and internal teams to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Summit’s quality standards.
Candidate must reside in the local market and be willing to travel to active projects as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project operations
Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, material deliveries, and project schedules
Assist with estimating, bidding, and procurement efforts
Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation as needed
Track project budgets, costs, and schedule updates
Support project closeout processes, punch lists, and turnover documentation
Communicate with clients, field teams, inspectors, and architects
Maintain accurate project records and reporting
Assist in conducting project meetings and distributing meeting minutes
Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Help identify and resolve project issues proactively
Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
3+ years of commercial construction or project management experience.
A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field is preferred
Experience with commercial construction processes, scheduling, and project coordination
Proficiency in construction management software such as Premier, Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Detail oriented with a high level of accountability
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
