Job Summary
This position is assigned to a Summit Pacific Medical Center Rural Health Clinic. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for providing psychiatric services to patients eligible for care at any of Summit’s out-patient clinics. Responsibilities include medication management, psychiatric evaluation, consultation, and limited counseling services. The patients served will also have access to low-barrier primary care, medication-assisted treatment, and counseling services within the same clinic. The provider is ultimately responsible for the psychological and pharmacological needs of the patients. The PMHNP will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations that include evaluation of mental status, current psychiatric symptoms, and functioning, as well as psychiatric and other relevant health histories.
2. Administer treatment plans in accordance with standardized procedures.
3. Prescribe psychotropic medications and short-term therapies to treat mental health conditions in accordance with standardized procedures.
4. Provide brief psychotherapeutic interventions in conjunction with evaluation and management services in accordance with standardized procedures.
5. Assess patients presenting in crisis, evaluate risk and develop a treatment plan.
6. Complete required documentation of clinical services provided and maintains up to date clinical records. Uses the electronic medical record.
7. Provide consultation with primary care providers.
8. Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Contributes to team-based care through effective partnerships with patients, their caregivers, and other providers.
9. Collaborates with internal and external resources to facilitate a safe transition from hospital to another facility or home with appropriate services. Identifies barriers and initiates action to resolve.
10. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities

Required Education and Experience
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited college or university
Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program
Two years of recent medication-management, preferred
Two years of counseling experience, preferred
Experience working with clients with co-occurring disorders who exhibit current or history of Substance Use Disorder, preferred
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
1. Active and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nursing License in the State of Washington
2. Possess a current, valid, unrestricted drug enforcement administration (DEA) number
3. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate
4. Medication-Assisted Treatment Provider Waiver, training complete within 90 days of employment
5. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
1. Advanced knowledge behavioral health theories and practices. Demonstrated competence in clinical skills such that he/she is able to perform required tasks.
2. Ability to assess patient needs and exercise independent judgment in managing and coordinating care.
3. Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with providers, other health care professionals, caregivers, and patients. Strong leadership, facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills.
4. Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.
5. Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
6. Ability to work independently performing a wide variety of assignments that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, organization, and prioritization skills.
7. Strong leadership, organizational and analytical skills.
8. Ability to manage multiple priorities and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment
